Both were defeated by 'Forrest Gump' for best picture in 1994. If 'Forrest Gump' was never made, what do you think would've won?

Pulp Fiction (10/10)
The Shawshank Redempton (7/10)

I meant to post a poll, but forgot to check the box. Sorry.

Pulp Fiction probably would've won. Although I'm sure it would have had tough competition with both Shawshank and Quiz Show as well.

Pulp Fiction would've won IMO, and I did think it was a better movie, flaws and all

Pulp Fiction is definitely the better film in my eyes, but Shawshank Redemption is probably more "Oscar friendly", and it would've been the winner that year.

Both excellent films, and if it were up to me, i'm honestly not sure which i'd choose. but i have to say that without forrest gump, shawshank would've had the best shot of actually winning

Shawshank cheats, Pulp Fiction wavers at times.

Both are solid, but Pulp Fiction is better.

Pulp Fiction is great, but I must admit that there are some scenes that are so damn boring!

Especially Butch's conversations with his girlfriend, the taxi cab scene, and upon my 5th or 6th viewing I really thought Vincent's date w/ Miya was really slow and not very entertaining.

And when Pulp Fiction first came out on VHS, I rented it and turned it off after 15 minutes because I thought it was so boring; I really like the movie now, but me in 7th grade watching it for the 1st time I hated it.

When I first watched Shawshank, I thought it was a beautiful and powerful film. An instant classic.

Pulp is the popular choice, but I'm gonna have to say Shawshank Redemption.

The Shawshank Redemption 9/10

Pulp Fiction 7/10

Both are good but Shawshank is better

Pulp Fiction probably would have won, despite the fact that Shawshank has a more "Oscar-bait" feel to it, due to the fact that Pulp Fiction was enormously popular when it was released, and Shawshank took a while to develop a following.

And if you want to know which one I prefer, I'd say Pulp Fiction, but only by a narrow gap. Neither of them would be my pick for best movie of 1994 though.

The Shawshank Redemption is a great film. I'm going with Pulp Fiction because it's the film that got me into film & cinema.

Just bought the special edition and sold the other. A movie finally getting the treatment it deserves.

Love both but Shawshank is just wonderful. 10/10 #5 on my all time list.

This thread is like asking someone to compare Beef with Lamb??

They're both great films, which will be iconic landmarks in cinema. Asking who deserved the Oscar is irrelevent, cos neither are what are considered "Oscar-winning" movies. Cue the arguments of Some Like It Hot/North By Northwest, Raging Bull/The Elephant Man, et al.

But since everyone else is voting along, I'll go with Shawshank for obvious reasons.

I don't know if I can decide on this one. That's pretty tough, those are two of my favorites.
