RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is the greatest movie of the 80s, no questions asked.

I'd say it's a tie between Raging Bull, Empire Strikes Back, and Amadeus.

1) The Empire Strikes Back
2) Return of the Jedi
3) Raiders of the Lost Ark
4) The Untouchables
5) Scarface
6) Aliens
7) The Princess Bride
8) The Terminator
9) The Naked Gun
10) Spaceballs
I did not include Balance, the 1989 Academy Award-winning animated short film, and the best animated short film I've ever seen. It scored a 10/10, and would have ranked around #2 somewhere.

*sigh* it seems to me to be really sad how few people don't think Amadeus qualifies...

This will make you even sadder, Jasonite, but I haven't seen Amadeus yet. I'll have to check it out and get back to you.

I thought Amadeus was an EXTREMELY well made movie, but I found that the narration by Abraham(which was gone for at least a half of an hour) and character study was a bit uneven, and Solieri's character wasn't developed as well as it should've been. I still give it 4 stars out of five, but it makes me wonder why it was chosen as Best Picture of 1984, when The Killing Fields was better, in my mind. I found too many flaws where I didn't expect to find any. I wouldn't put it in top movies of the 80's list, if and when I sit down to make one.

In no particular Order:
Alan Parker's ANGEL HEART
Adrianne Lynne's JACOBS LADDER
Spielberg's RAIDERS
Micheal Mann's THIEF
Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL
Luc Besson's LA FEMME NIKITTA
Richard Attenborough's GHANDI
Kurosawa's RAN
John Boorman's EXCALIBUR
Richard Rush's THE STUNT MAN
There are tons more 80's films I love, but these are a few off the top of my head that really stand the test of time for me.
