I feel like slapping some sense into Amy Pascal (Chair of Sony's Columbia Pictures). Does this woman really think spidey will lose steam after 3 films when 007 movies made it to 21 and maybe even beyond??? That's just plain wrong, they could've easily made the rumoured 9 movies. I always thought there would be 3 separate trilogies with three separate directors and 3 separate casts. The first two are quality pictures, and no doubt so will the third, but there's still quality material available for more than 3 pictures. Oh well, it's not to be, but I really hope the folks at Sony change their minds. Damn it TIMES NINE!!!!!!!!!

Thats what they'll probably do. There does need to be some closure at the end of 3, because it will all be changing after that.

Also, I think its a rouse to make us think Spidey might 'die' in 3. Just to heighten its drama and hype.

i'm a HUGE Spidey/Sam Raimi fan...and I think that having three films is great a nice wee trilogy coz so far the films have been great and telling great stories coz it isnt just a lame ass 2 hour brainless action flick its got real emotions and drama playing throughout the films which i love...so i feel its a great idea to have the Spidey films asa trilogy have a nice dramatic kick ass action packed finale...ooooh the excitment....

PLUS I really want Raimi to be done with Spidey so he can get Evil Dead 4 started lol....*prays*

I don't see much sense in her comments really.

The first two films are amongst the biggest ever made, and more importantly they are setting up so many story threads that there is no way they can cap it all off with a third film.

So many fans would be disappointed.

In my opinion, things are just warming up. Bigger things are to come as the technology improves and the production team's experience of making each Spiderman film continues to expand.

The thing is, they don't want to push it too far with anything too outlandish, cause the first two films have done a very good job of keeping the emotional level of the story (and the characters within that story) intact. You don't want too many stupid badguys roaming around. Could get silly.

The one true bad-guy everyone is waiting for is Venom.

It's my belief that they've only just scratched the surface in terms of Spidey really showing us what he can do with his powers.

I think 3 is enough. It's not that the franchise will 'get stale', but that Sony will probably seriously fuck it up. If it can be done wrong, a movie studio will do it.

I think it'd be a good idea to get a different director on from SPIDEY 4 on. Don't get me wrong, I love Raimi and he's done terrific work with the franchise so far, but if a franchise wants to keep being interesting, at some point it has to renew itself, and I think that passes by changing directors.

Raimi's interest in the character of Spider-man is studying the theme of responsability, the metaphor of a teenager becoming a man, of going through the hardships and facing obstacles even though it isn't easy, because sometimes it needs to be done. But there's more to the Spider-man character. In himself, first -- choosing his identity, whether he's Peter Parker or Spider-man first; getting to be accepted (something Raimi touched with the Brookly Bridge "if you attack one of us...!" scene in the first one and the outdoors subway knockout scene in the second one), everything he can do with his powers, deciding on a career (the Peter Parker side of him)...In terms of relationships, too -- with MJ, marrying MJ, with the Osborne family and Harry in particular, with his Aunt May and whether or not she should or will know he's Spider-man, with JJ Jameson. In terms of villains -- there's Venom, there's Kraven, there's the Sandman, there's Electro, there's a version of a villain conceived in James Cameron's treatment who was really something new.

And personally, there's also one thing I think this franchise could and should have: Gwen Stacy. The Ultimate version of the comic book showed that you could introduce this legendary character later on in Spidey's life and still make her an extremely interesting character. I think Movie Spidey, in order to really be Spidey, needs Gwen Stacy -- and needs Gwen Stacy's death. That'd give us a poignant moment of cinema.
