Movies.com reported the date of release as October 19th. All of us here at work saw it and were really excited.
They did change it. I just don't know why.

New line Cinema which gets distributed through Warner bros, moved both The Notebook and Harold and Kumar go to white castle out of the 4th quarter so neither would get forgotten about
with the other stronger A titles such as Harry Potter, King arthur, Shrek 2, Spider man 2, etc. coming out between october and december, New line Positioned the Notebook during the valentines day week, to take advantage of the romance themed Film.
the reason for the abrupt Move, New line orginally intended to release The Notebook in october, however after seeing the compitition and tracking polls, it is assumed that New line go cold feet and moved it to a more relaxed renting time. I honestly think it was a good strong Marketing move.
some studios like New line Cinema put alot of time in the promoting of their dvds and Film releases, unlike other studios that just throw there titles out like nothing.
Its a marketing thing I assume

I'm really looking forward to this movie, and since it's part of the "New Line Platinum Series" I'm sure I won't be disappointed. But really, 8 months is a very long wait... Imagine if that becomes a trend!

A friend of mine and one of the hottest girls in my class knows I like movies and is always asking me when THE NOTEBOOK is coming out. Upon figuring out the release date a few days ago, it felt great to finally give her a real answer :)

guh, was dissapointed read this thread to find a push back in the release of this film, which in my opinion is one of the best romantic stories i have seen.
has been a long time coming and a further pushback is seriously not going to go down well with the wife :( :( who has even more of a fascination with this movie than i do lol!.

I missed it at the theatres....and I'm sorry to learn it's not coming out for a few months yet. BAH! I guess it is coming out at a good time for it, because of Valentine's day, probably a good marketing move.... I just hate having to wait to see this one. :(
