View Full Version : Best Star Wars Film?

With all of the hype surrounding the latest addition to the Star Wars trilogy, its amazing how many people have tried to dig the saga into the ground, some people even saying that Lucas is abusing his rights to intellectual property (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/commentary/?id=1477&p=.htm) . With all of this bitterness, I thought I'd ask just a general question...
Which Star Wars trilogy film did the most for everyone? And, since many people find themselves let down after the first two prequels, was anyone let down by the previous trilogy installments?
I'll start off by saying the first Star Wars does not have the 'Star Wars feel' to it and feels out of place in the Saga. I would also like to point out that Ewoks are as annoying as Gungans, except more tolerable since they're teddy bears and Gungans are obnoxious CGI characters.
However, I did think that, minus the romantic side, Ep. II was quite fun and far better done than Ep. I. I'd even say I liked it more than I liked Ep. IV, or Ep. I.
What are your thoughts on the Star Wars bi-trilogy?

Attack Of The Clones . . .

:D

Nah . . . Empire. Though I'm not fan of the series, the first three were good.

Of the original trilogy my favorite is Return of the Jedi.

But, some bad dialogue aside, Attack of the Clones really is my favorite of the Star Wars movies.

I can't really give a straight answer, I really like every one from the original trilogy. Probably A New Hope or Empire, I suppose I'll go with Empire. Still can't say for sure though.

The one that started it all: A New Hope

The Empire Strikes Back by a gargantuan margin. It's the only installment that shows the pendulum of power that exists during a civil war, where yes, even the the bad guys can get the upper hand. Therefore, making Empire the most emotional of the saga.

A distant second would be Star Wars (only fans of the new films call it A New Hope)

Jedi, Phantom and Clones are just extended episodes of The Muppets. But at least Jedi had a seriously mean-looking Jabba.

It's been "A New Hope" since 1981.

Thematically and stylistically, as well as story wise I should say The Empire Strikes Back, although Star Wars is my personal favorite.

I refuse to refer to it as "A New Hope"

Why does everyone hail The Empire Strikes Back as their favorate of them all? Its darker, less fun and ultimately less satisfying then the rest of them. That being said, it is still an amazing movie. Though, without a doubt I think A New Hope or Return of the Jedi is my favorate.

A New Hope - 9/10
Return of the Jedi - 9/10
The Empire Strikes Back - 8/10
The Phantom Menace - 7.5/10
Attack of the Clones - 7/10

The reason I like it so much is because it's darker. Not necessarily less fun; and definitely not less satisfying... Some people like a little dark to their sci/fi.

What's wrong with calling it "A New Hope"? That's its title.

A much better script, deeper characters, a darker theme, and a wonderful sense of discovery make it the best of the films.

Empire.

Not only is it more darker, it opens up a new revelation. I also find it to be the most entertaining of the bunch. Just an all-around amazing film, IMO.

Star Wars/New Hope - whatever you prefer - is a close second.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return Of The Jedi
4. Attack Of The Clones
5. The Phanthom Menace

One thing about Jedi...while the movie can be cheesy and is certainly less as expansive as the others...the Ewoks and all the comedy thrown in...I dig the fact that it wasted no time tying up the story and that Luke finally had his shite together.

You see, it was never released as A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were released as so, A New Hope was released as Star Wars. I prefer to refer to them as their original titles.

And besides episode 1,2,3 that episode shite on the original trilogy means nothing to me.

Tie:

RETURN OF THE JEDI (The new edition has those fucking Gungans in it! )

and

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

I don't hate any of them, but the prequels aren't the same for me as the original trilogy. None of them are terrible, though.

2. A New Hope - 9/10
3. The Return of the Jedi - 8/10
4. Attack of the Clones - 7/10 (although it might be that I'm partial toward any movie with Natalie Portman:D )
5. The Phantom Menace - 6/10 (some great scenes in the film, but the script is just soooo bad!)

No, the prequals are not at the same level as the original trilogy, but was anyone expecting them to be? After so many years, you just can't reproduce something of that caliber again.

I'm guessing Ep. III will be the best of the prequals.
