Kidman: I Would Rather Be a Brunette

Associated Press

PARIS - Blondes may have more fun, but Nicole Kidman says she would rather have been born a brunette.

The actress, in an interview with French magazine Paris Match, also said she is growing tired of cinema and doesn't see herself pursuing her film career indefinitely. And she revealed that her 2001 divorce from Tom Cruise changed her criteria for selecting roles.

"Since my divorce, I lean, consciously or not, toward characters who are strong women taking control of their destiny, personal and professional," the weekly quoted Kidman as saying.

"The position of a so-called powerful actress is comforting for a single woman like me," she added. "It gives you a character of hardened steel."

Kidman, envied for her golden curls and porcelain skin, said she believes a darker complexion would have left her less susceptible to the sun's damaging rays. She said she worries about skin cancer.

"I would, all things said, have preferred to be a brunette with a dark complexion. But I work with what I have," she said.

Well, I would rather a brunette, over a blonde anyday.

Although I honestly, and more specifically prefer girls with long raven/black hair.

Even though Kidman is just fine as a blonde, I have to agree with her...

Brunettes all the way! :D

Eh, she is cute and all but even if she dyed her hair she is still no Christina Ricci! Yummy!

Well, duh! *tosses long brown locks over shoulder*

Seriously, I was blonde for YEARS, and let's just say that only certain privileged individuals knew it wasn't natural. Then one day, due to a salon accident, I came out with my natural color (brunette). I was treated differently from the get-go and attracted an entirely different type of guy from that day forward. It's odd, but it's true - blondes may get more attention, but brunettes get more quality! Nic's wising up to that fact!

:p

Yay. I'm a brunette, (with beautiful highlights might I add :D) and a lot of guys I know prefer brown over blonde. I do wish I was a blonde sometimes, but I seem to get more attention then my best friend who is blonde. Maybe guys are sick of the 'dumb blonde' look? (hence, Jessica Simpson)

The blonde myth is just that. Personality and intelligence go a lot farther than people think. And although I must admit I'm a sucker for a pretty face, I prefer that face attached to brunette or red hair.

I'd rather she be pretty more than anything.

I honestly dont know how anyone can find her scrawny, pale ass attractive in the first place.

Never once thought she's pretty. Never.

Nicole, to me, you are gorgeous and a fine idol for us redheads. Wear your locks and looks with pride, fair lady.

I'm a big fan of redheads (Nicole, Julianne Moore, Alyson Hannigan) but that's a shade beside the point. Mostly I just find it odd that someone as beautiful as Kidman is unhappy with any aspect of her appearence. I guess everyone has confidence issues from time to time, eh
