Being that the original classic DAWN OF THE DEAD came out in an awesome 4 disc DVD set a few weeks ago, and the remake of that film is coming out on DVD in an Unrated Director's Cut on the 26th, and SHAUN OF THE DEAD is currently in theaters, and oh, it's almost Halloween--the time of year where zombie movies are best viewing--it seems logical to ask... What is your favorite zombie, or zombie-eske film.

My vote: Dawn of the Dead (1979)

Ugh! I can't believe I included a movie like the crappy Austrailian mock-flick "Undead" in this poll, and totally forgot about "28 Days Later...".

28 Days Later was one of my favorite films of the last few years, so I really apologize for not adding it in this poll. It's such an intelligent film, and without it, the great "Dawn of the Dead" remake and "Shaun of the Dead" (also the upcoming "Land of the Dead") probably wouldn't have been put into production. It was really innovative, and well made too.

That's what I get for posting at work, only half of my brain is on what I'm typing, the other on my job.

Seriously, I feel like an idiot.

Sorry...

very close between Dawn Of The Dead and Evil Dead, but I had to give Evil Dead a slight edge because it had such a profound effect on me as a kid when I first saw it and influenced the scripts I've been working on.

I'd also have to give huge kudos to Shaun Of The Dead for getting it right in mixing comedy and horror, which Return Of The Living Dead Part 2 fucked up in every way possible. I hate, hate, hated that movie...

I wouldnt really classify the Evil Dead movies as zombie films, as they ussually deal with possession, with is entirely different and obviously weren't meant to be the type of movies associated with your standard zombie movie fare. In which case, I choose the original Dawn Of The Dead as the best zombie movie, such a classic and just a fantastic picture.

That's why, in my original poll post, I said zombie or zombie-ESKE film...

I realize zombies aren't deadites, but they're innovations of zombies. Like the "infected" were in 28 Days Later...

Again, I apologize for forgetting to add 28 Days Later... to the poll.

I really liked 28 Days Later even though technically it's not a zombie film...

I just saw Shaun Of The Dead again today and I loved it even more. It is definitely my current favorite.

Indeed. And to me, no matter how much Danny Boyle thinks otherwise, 28 Days Later is a zombie movie, plain and simple.

28 Days Later is also my choice

Dawn of the Dead (1978) definetely. Not many movies have combined social commentary and horror like this one.

Out of those choices I picked Evil Dead, but if 28 Days Later counts as a zombie movie, I choose it.

In my opinion, it's not. But I really don't feel like getting into that argument again.

My favorite of the movies in the poll is Evil Dead II, but since it's not really a zombie movie (more of a possession/evil spirit movie), I voted for Night of the Living Dead (1968).
