It's come to my attention that lately, i've been buying movies I really like very cheaply, because their dvds were released a while ago. I bought Reservoir Dogs for $10, American Psycho for $7, Way Of The Gun for $5... I mean c'mon... If this trend keeps going, I'll never buy a new release. Again. Ever.

I have realised this recently aswell, I hate looking in the sales and seeing a dvd I got on release for half the price. Im only gonna buy dvds on release that are essential.

I bought Daredevil the day it came out on dvd for $32.75,
I saw it at walmart last month for $9.00

Technically, Wyoming is the worst idea ever, but I see where you're coming from.

That's generally the trend for older releases to be cheaper than new releases..isn't it?

Yeah, but you'd generally expect a few bucks off, not for the movie to cost less than 2 sandwiches at 711.

Yeah, but DVD prices are falling faster than ever it seems. Some new releases get marked down to $15 bucks at Wal Mart within six months.

i never buy new releases anymore, i wait for them to enter sales, which usually happens a few months after their release

Well this is what piracy is doing to the industry, they're being priced down so quickly to beat it

yeah best buy and circuit city have movies usually for 15.99
the price doesn't drop to 10 bucks until, like a year or so later.
some movies i just can't wait to own and see again
i.e eternal sunshine. ^_^
so no, i don't think it is stupid.
it is stupid, however, to hold off for the first week of it being on sale and buy it for $20 the next (lots of people do).

You could always console yourself with the fact that however much you'd paid for Daredevil you would have been overcharged. ;)

I buy almost all my dvd's from Half.com, new releases or not. Even with shipping costs added in you would be hard pressed to find better deals in any retail store. Plus, if your willing to buy used dvd's you can save a bundle!!!!! :)

buying new releases is kind of silly, unless its a title that you know wont drop in price like a TV season set or a box set, those almost never drop in price.
All the MGM new releases get price-dropped within 3 months of their initial release. Bubba Ho-Tep had an MSRP of 28.99, it recently went down to only 19.99. I'm expecting the same for Coffee & Cigarettes and Grand Theft Parsons.
Universal does that as well.
The other thing you can do if you cant wait 3 months is go to Hollywood video, they have an amazing 3 Used DVD's for 25 dollars sale. They usually have NR's about month or so after theyre released.

When you can get great movies like Go and Dark City on DVD for $6 like I just did, yes, buying newer DVDs (and maybe worse DVDS) is not worth it. Not to mention these DVDs are Special Editions.

Never buy anything from HMV if your in Canada, unless you can find some good dvd's from the 2 for 40... one time i found E.T. and Memento Limited Edition that was good... but most of the time HMV is way too overpriced
For me, i like to buy tv series and indie or smaller movies when they first come out, but wait till the big ones like (Dawn of the Dead) go previously viewed at Blockbusters... for like $9.99
