Dubya takes Australia offline

GEORGE W. Bush doesn't trust the outside world to view his US election campaign website, and that includes close ally Australia.

The US President's re-election aides said today it had cut off access to its website from certain foreign countries "for security reasons", but declined to elaborate.

"The measure was taken for security reasons," campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

The President's campaign office said earlier it had received telephone calls about access failures.

Mr Bush's campaign aides would not offer any more details, but last week the site went down for about five hours after a "denial of service" attack.

When the web address "www.georgewbush.com" was typed from NEWS.com.au's office, the following message appeared:

This is what Kerry was refering to when he said that Bush doesn't welcome everyone

EDIT:

Not this specific thing, but this type of mentality

This is complete fucking bullshit. This sort of thing, especially these missing Flordia absentee ballots, make me mad at the Republicans. This is one political party that's destined for the trashbin of history.

Suppose some of us were to copy and post material from the George Bush website right here on the boards, for the benefit of non-USA schmoes. Would that be considered an act of civil disobedience? :p

What would possibly be so bad onhis website that he doesn't want people to see it. I'm sure there is a logical explanation for this.

Still works for those of us living in The Great White North. Any non-American schmoes having trouble?

There were already studies to prove that even if all of the ballots were counted and devided evenly and correctly, Bush would have still won the state of Florida.

MIAMI — Former vice president Al Gore would not have picked up many new votes in Miami-Dade County — and might have lost ground in the county — if the hand count of ballots that he requested had been completed, according to an independent study done for USA TODAY, The Miami Herald and Knight Ridder Newspapers.
Gore would have had a net gain of 49 votes if the most-lenient standard — counting even faintly dimpled chads — had been used, the study found. If the standard had been more stringent, George W. Bush probably would have gained votes.
The results are a blow to Democratic claims that Gore would have won the election if a hand recount had occurred.
Democrats had expected to net about 600 additional votes in Miami-Dade. That would have been enough to overcome Bush's 537-vote margin. The Florida Supreme Court had ordered a hand count of undervotes, which are the ballots that didn't register a preference when votes were counted by machine. However, the U.S. Supreme Court stopped the hand count, making Bush the next president.
USA TODAY, The Miami Herald and Knight Ridder hired the national accounting firm BDO Seidman to examine all 60,000 undervotes in Florida's 67 counties. The results from Miami-Dade are the first released by the news organizations. Full results are expected within weeks. BDO Seidman reported that 4,892 of 10,646 undervote ballots in Miami-Dade had no mark whatsoever. It found that 1,555 ballots had some indication the voter wanted Gore and 1,506 indicated Bush. The remainder were either marked, but not on a candidate's name, or were for other candidates. Dimpled chads accounted for 1,202 of the 1,555 potential Gore votes and 1,092 of the 1,506 potential Bush votes.
If the most-lenient standard had been used to judge votes, and dimpled chads had been counted, Gore benefited slightly. When stricter standards applied, Bush won the count.

You wouldn’t be able to post anything if people completely destroyed the site. Remember, it’s only temporary.

(back to subject)

This would be "bullshit" if what they say were completely and undeniably true; however, did you not read what they (the white house) said about the inaccessible website? Did you not google other sources to make sure that what this site says is completely accurate?

They (again the white house) claimed it was under threat from foreign hackers, and then the website went down completely excluding everyone, not just parts of Europe and Australia, for a couple of hours I think last Tuesday. The white house was assuming that the people that caused the site to collapse were from those area’s stated, and so they cut them off for a set time to figure out a way to block the hackers, and the hackers only, from accessing their files to distort the pages. A lot of people here in the U.S. run their servers through Paris and other parts of Europe, and PEOPLE IN AMERICA weren’t allowed to access the site because of it, so its NOT "bush trying to get rid of our ally’s," I don’t even think bush was involved in the decision. I personally can’t see bush behind a computer purposely blocking people from accessing the site. I also can’t see bush telling SOMEONE else to block half of Europe and Australia because he doesnt like them or trust them… its just stupid.

Point being, the sites are down for those countries so people can’t mess it up or shut it down completely again.

This website clearly stwists words and facts to demean Bush/republicans.

GEORGE W. Bush doesn't trust the outside world to view his US election campaign website, and that includes close ally Australia.

This was the first paragraph that someone would read when reading this subject. That's not true!! This… is BULLSHIT!!!! Evenhanded my ass.

Cy was refering to the absentee ballots from the 2004 election down in Miami-Dade.

I don't recall there ever being a dispute over absentee ballots in the 2000 election. All I remember are the dimpled chads and the problem with Pat Buchanan getting an unusual high amount of votes in areas with elderly Jews, and that the ballots were confusing for people with bad eye sight.

If you ask me, it's pretty obvious that elderly Jews didn't choose Buchanan over Gore/LIBERMAN

As far as all that goes, I do believe many ballots were tossed out because of the elderly vote. I voted on those same cards and specifically remember it being a pain in the ass. You really had to look twice, and I could totally see some old person getting confused. It was probably the stupidest ballot to ever exist, and no one in power even humored the idea.

In my opinion there should have been a revote. And before you say that would be stupid, remember that in 2002 Florida citizens voted for an amendment on a high-speed rail system, and governor Jeb Bush appealed the amendment asking for a revote, saying the citizens were confused.

It's a double standard, and there is much to be said in the fact that federal law was passed saying the supreme court could not prevent a state from determining who won.

People made fun of Floridans without any thought as to why the hell they would design the ballots like this. There are arrows, yes, but there are also lines, and there are candidates on two pages.

It was dumb I tell you, and unless you actually voted on this ballot, you can say all you want, but your not talking from experience.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Three people filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking a new election in Palm Beach County, claiming the punch-card ballot was so confusing that they accidentally voted for Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan instead of Vice President Al Gore.

The lawsuit came after hundreds of Gore supporters flooded the Palm Beach County elections office with calls Wednesday, saying they feared they had mistakenly voted for Buchanan.

Lawyers for the Democratic Party said that the design of the Palm Beach County ballot is illegal and that they may ask for a re-vote. But no immediate action was taken by the party.

Buchanan got 3,407 votes for president in the heavily Democratic county Tuesday, more than he received in any other Florida county, according to unofficial returns. Statewide, Gore was behind George W. Bush by fewer than 1,800 votes, and Florida held the key to the national race.

LOL!:D
You guys KNOW what happened, right?

Bush heard the 80`s song "Down Under" by Men At Work, and during the chorus where the singer goes, You better run, You better take cover.....well, Bush took that as a threat. A DIRECT threat to homeland security.

You see, the Aussies are harboring weapons of mass destruction.
Come on folks, we ALL saw this coming, those damn Aussies and their damn Yahoo Serious and their damn Wiggles......:D :D :D :D :D
