I first wanted to this movie after reading The Arrow's review. There are so few werewolf movies nowadays. After seeing An American Werewolf in London, I watched Ginger Snaps with my dad. I'm rather surprised that he liked it.
Ginger Snaps, in my opinion, is at or very near AWIL's level when it comes to a quality werewolf movie. You may not agree.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I prefer 'Silver Bullet' and 'The Howling', but this would rank 3rd.

I just choked on a Ginger Snap when I read that. How's that for a coincidence?
Anyway...I loved Ginger Snaps. More surprisingly, though, I just got done watching the two sequels back to back and I fucking loved them. The second wasn't quite as good as the third. They were both really good though. Way better than i've come to expect from sequels.
Ginger Snaps - 4.5/5
Ginger Snaps 2 - 4/5
Ginger Snaps Back - 4.5/5

i love Ginger Snaps, its my favourite werewolf flick, everything about it is great IMO...i also really enjoyed Unleashed, although not as good as the first film it was still a lot of fun...
just got finished with Ginger Snaps 3: The Beginning and i really enjoyed it, not as good as 1 but was an improvement on Unleashed, some nice gore and very enjoyable
one of the few consistently great trilogies
Ginger Snaps - 10/10
Gigner Snaps 2 - 8/10
Ginger Snaps 3 - 9/10

"Ginger Snaps" is, indeed, the best werewolf movie since "American Werewolf In London".
The sequel is pretty damn good too. Didn`t like the prequel though (but I seem to be in the minority).

Fantastic, fantastic trilogy. And yeah, the first is the best.

Yeah man, Ginger Snaps was an excellent film. Great performances, nicely done gore, genuine scares as well as sick humour, this was the real deal. The second one's quite good, the third one a little better, but not as good as the original

I like it but the 30 last minutes were less interesting.
The credits at the beginning were impressive with all the suicide pictures. It is morbid but original.
I also like the cinematography which is different of what it is made today I think.
Depressing movie but with a sociological standpoint and that's good for a horror movie.

Agreed, the climax didn`t have the same level of energy as the rest of the movie.

I figured that the majority was indifferent toward Ginger Snaps Back, or at least that's what I gathered from perusing most horror sites. I haven't seen an overwhelming amount of gushing reviews for it. I wasn't fond of it myself, but now's a good time to lay this series to rest.
I know it's a touchy subject, and I wouldn't want to stir up controversy, but I've always been partial to fudge stripe cookies.

Ginger snaps is definately good times, you should check it out.
But be warned, one glimpse of the breathtakingly beautiful Katherine Isabelle witll forever make you her love slave.... oh wait ... thats just me. The sequel was cool and had some good ideas and I am still saving money to pay off my video rental debt so I can rent snaps back. I am fiening for the 'Kath.

I love Ginger Snaps (the movie), the only horror film to have me reaching for my box of tissues. Amazing stuff - 9/10.
I haven't seen either sequel or prequel yet but I will soon enough, the second Ginger Snaps has just recently been releashed so I'll be after that especially with the third coming out early next year (17th Jan). Can't wait.

I really liked Ginger Snaps. Part 2 kinda sucked and I haven't seen part 3 yet.
As you can see by my profile, it's one of my top three. The chemistry between Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle in all three films is astounding.

Ginger Snaps is an awesome film. The second one was ok but the third was definately a lot better.
The original however, is definately my favorite of the three. I agree with Kaos. Perkins and Isabelle work great together and they really make you think they are true sisters. "Together forever."

I've seen the first and third Ginger Snaps and they were pretty good. I wouldn't say they were the best werewolf movies since American Werewolf in London though, I think Dog Soldiers would hold that spot for me.

I had some trouble with the whole back in time thing. It would've made a better fourth movie, and the third one should have finished the Bridget storyline. That was just not cool leaving her like that

What troubles did you have with the back in time thing? I thought they did a great job, the sets the costumes and acting. All of it was great. An interesting story on how the werewolf "disease" came to be. The two sisters.
The way that Bridget ended up was sad. You really care about this character and know what's going to happen to her eventually.
POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR GS2 BELOW HIGHLIGHT TO READ
When it does happen the only way to wrap up Bridget's story would be to see what happened to Ghosts' relative once she came home and have Bridget eventually break out of the basement and take out Ghost or Ghost take her out. It might be interesting to see how they would do this but I was satisfied with how it ended.

I didn't really like Ginger Snaps. In fact, except for An American Werewolf in London and Silver Bullet, I don't really care for werewolf related stories. They just don't do it for me. This isnt a bad movie, it's just not my cup o' tea.

The problems I had with the third movie don't have anything to do with the costumes or acting. It the fact that I felt the second movie needed to finsih Bridgette's storyline before moving back to the beginnning.
I do, however, agree with you about the only way the second could've wrapped up. I just thought it would've made an execllent movie, and then the prequel could've been the fourth movie.
Don't get me wrong I loved the trilogy, I just felt like the second movie's ending was a bit of a let down. POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR GS2 BELOW HIGHLIGHT TO READ I wanted to see how the storyline would be taken after Ghost was going to try to use Bridgette as her weapon so she could conduct her "reign of morral terror."

I love Ginger Snaps! :)
It's probably in my top 10 of all time. It's sharp, has some great boo-scares and has multi-layered characters (rare for a horror movie). Emily Perkins is scarily good in that movie.

I really enjoyed the first one. Great performances by both lead actresses. The sequel, however, was just plain unnecessary. I could never see myself sitting through it again...just too damn boring.
My personal preference...

Um, I liked Ginger's tail.
Seriously though, I thought it was pretty good, except for the explanation of menstration by the school nurse. That was probably the grossest thing in the entire movie.

Im a big fan of the series. The first being the best, second being second, third being third...As for the way Brigette (sp?) ended up, yeah it's a bummer, but it fit to me. The way Ginger Snaps 1 ended wasn't pretty either...they kept up the dreaded irony deal. I didnt need more explained on the second because once that line was crossed, it showed the final result, and there's no undoing it. The third was....different. It got on my nerves a bit, they over did the dramatic sister thing a bit too much, and there could have been more going on to make it more interesting. The ending also cut off a little too quickly for my tastes; now THAT one I wanted them to stretch out. But it still was intriguing, not a bad film, just mediocre.

Ginger Snaps was surprisingly good.... I loved the modern and unique twists on the generally average Werewolf genre. Ginger also happens to be gorgeous....
Ginger Snaps is second only to the marvellous Dog Soldiers on my favourite werewolf flicks.

GS is a personal favorite of mine.
ginger snaps review (http://www.miceland.com/index.php/weblog/ginger_snaps/)
It reminds me a little of She-Wolf of London in that there she-wolves. Anything where the werewolf is a guy is always going to make me compare it against the original The Wolf Man. I still love that movie. Its so tragic. I could care less about the effects, thus its a movie that doesn't need updating.
I have not yet seen GS2 or 3. I don't hold out a lot of hope for their greatness though. So many sequels just falling flat. It hardly seems worth it.

I liked it, though I'm getting kind of sick of seeing these tragic endings. If I wanted a tragedy, I'd read Macbeth.

I love the first Ginger Snaps, it was one of my favorite werewolf moives. Then the 2nd one, it was well...mediocre. Then the 3rd came out and it was pretty damn good, not as good as the original but pretty close IMO.

Not surprising this was in there since the first film was supposed to be a huge metaphore for a girl getting her period. The script was written to compare a girl's period, how it was like going through the big change, almost like a werewolf. Which makes me laugh because it was lost on most and the sequels completely lost the theme. I can see most of my fellow shmoes of the male population going WTF but alas boys it's true, women have attacked us on our turf. Now us men must retaliate and make more remakes of films they hated... LoL

I haven't seen any of the films... I would blind buy it considering that most people here seem to love it... the only thing is I can't find the original copy. I see Ginger Snaps 2, and Ginger Snaps Back all the time in the store, but I can't find the first one. I'd rather see the first before the other expecially if I were to buy them.
If you get the first one, make sure it's the SE DVD, the regular one has almost no extras. The SE DVD is hard to find, but here's a few links to help.

I won't disagree there but really that is the smallest part of the whole movie. Its really more about the teen angst and the sisters' relationship.
Sometimes its not about the effects.

The wait is over and Ginger Snaps didn't disappoint. It felt like it dragged a little near the end but still a very solid film. At first I hated the Fitzgerald sisters and their "Life is too horrible to live through" attitude but within 20 minutes or so they started to grow on me. Especially Briggite. Seriously, Emily Perkins made some great facial features. Great acting talent there.
It was certainly a different approach to the standard werewolf story. Adding the element of Ginger's first period took the idea of "transformation" to a unique level. This one should have gotten a wide release in theatres. A shame.
Looking forward to Unleashed and Snaps Back.
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I enjoy Ginger Snaps alot. Unfortunatley it falls apart in the last 20 mins. or so. I really liked the death shots that ran during the opening credits. Both girls did a great acting job. The parents where quite funny at times as well. The music was really cool too. They use some cool gothish violin/keyboard stuff and some Fear Factory gets thrown in for good measure.
Part 2 was abit of a letdown. Part 3 was pretty good but not as good as the first one.
