i saw this flick in the horror section at Wal-Mart...it looks utterly ridiculous, and i was wondering if anybody had seen it.

My advice is don't watch this movie on Sci-Fi. I got the DVD from Netflix because I was sure it would be cut to pieces on cable. I was right. There was alot of gore and even some brief nudity cut out that definitely would have taken the edge away from the movie.

Is Frankenfish a work of art?? By no means at all. But it's an hour and a half of fun that actually sets quite a good mood at the beginning. Think of it as kind of a fresh water Jaws in terms of what you can see at first. The director Mark Dippe decided to go the way of what you can't see is scarier then what you can see. I think that was a good choice. How scared would you be if a giant snakehead fish was constantly thrown in your face??

When the snakehead does show up the CGI is not that great. That is however combated by showing it in shorts spurts and making it extremely fast moving. I must say there was some great gore and some memorable kills. Aside from a sequence near the end the bad CGI is not over used and really never is seen enough to get annoying.

What makes Frankenfish stand above other made for TV movies is the solid acting by the leads. If the acting had not been good this may have been one of those movies you watch for 5 minutes then turn off. I believed the crime scene investigator and the biologist and that's really all you need to believe the stay interested.

Another thing I dug about this movie was how different it was from your run of the mill horror by numbers. The ways and order in which some of the characters were killed off was definitely not by the numbers. There will be several times where you really won't see things coming.

Frankenfish is a welcome hour and a half of fun. The story is believable enough and the bad CGI is covered for quite well. The ending at first turned me off, but then gave me quite a little surprise and chuckle and left me quite happy. A solid effort for a low budget flick.

Frankenfish 7/10

Dumb but fun. Quite a body count and bloody as hell. I liked it.

mshulman5 said it well, methinks.

Worth a rental, if not a buy. I was kinda cautious going into this one, but for the last 50 minutes or so, GET THE BEERS OUT cause it's fun fucking times. The CGI grows on you, which is definately a first for me, mainly because you're having so much fun once the killing starts that you really don't focus too much on it.

I was very, very pleasantly surprised with this one....not only are some of the killings plain unexpected, but they make you go HOOO-OOOLY SHIIIIT!!!!!

Not much higher accolade than that for a creature feature, IMO.

I actually think that I want to see this. I have a serious failing in that I regularly hire straight to video dross in the hope of discovering an unsung classic. When this works I get something really cool like Dead End. When my quality radar goes on the fritz I end up with Komodo. I'm not anticipating anything as good as Dead End with Frankenfish but here's hoping it's better than dross like Komodo.

FUCK!!! Just went and checked. It doesn't hit the rental scene in the uk until February 2005.

I wouldn't exactly call Frankenfish a straight to video classic or anything but it WAS a little better than I was expecting from a movie called... Frankenfish.

The acting is actually a step up from some of the recent garbage I've watched like The Feeding or Lake Placid 2. The thing that really bothered me was the twist near the end and the explanation of why the fish is what it is. I get tired of cliche explanations.

Overall it was kind of fun. Nothing outstanding but it did surprise me a little.

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Didn't expect much from this but overall ended up enjoying it. The creature scenes, while the effects weren't that great, were fun and the acting wasn't as bad as it could have been. One of the more enjoyable straight to tv/video horror flicks from the last few years.

7/10

Whats more crazy,is if you go back on imdb's rental records, this movie was on the top 50 rentals for like 2-3 weeks raking in money.

It's not been a year since I saw it and I don't remember anything about it. Not even one kill. That should give you an idea of what I think about it. For the record, I saw it on DVD, not TV.

Better than most of the low budget monster movies that have been STDVD. I've gone back and watched it a few times since I bought it.
