1) The Sixth Sense
2) Arlington Road
3) Se7en
4) Fight Club
5) Vanilla Sky
There are some movies that would be great surpring endings, but they are so classic and so well-known that by the time we get to them, they aren't surprises anymore. I'm referring to such movies as The Empire Strikes Back and Planet of the Apes. Ah well...
(Jeepers Creepers is a good one, too...)

French Film(original)...
~Kidnapper say's to kidnap victim's husband:
"If you want to see your wife again, I'll take you to where she is right now...But ONLY If you go with me right now...unconcious"
Husband of victim: Ok.
Kidnapper proceeds to knock-out Husb with cloraform(sp?) in a hanky.
Cut to scene in total darkness...
Husband wakes up in a COFFIN buried deep in the ground which he cannot escape!! Film ends as husband is screaming inside the coffin!!!!
***The American version of this French film has Keifer Sutherland escaping the coffin to save his wife which ruined the film.***

This got ruined for me big time, which is why it's not on my list. I was in a chat room and some guy that wasn't impressed said, "so blah blah is a blah blah, who cares" sigh...

I am so glad I saw The Sixth Sense early, before I even knew there was a surprise ending. The ending was an experience.

I went into this film not knowing anything about it, and without seeing a trailer, and without reading a review for it. I'm glad I didn't though. I enjoyed the movie more.

1) The Sixt Sense.
2) Fight Club.
3) One Night at McCools.
4) Cube.
5) Seven (I more or less saw it coming at the end of the movie, but I still find it one of the most horrible ending to a movie there is).
6) Arlington Road.
7) Planet of the Apes (original movie, the remake's ending is bullshit).
8) The Empire Strikes Back (when I saw it for the first time and didn't know anything about it, Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father, oh my God!).
9) Invasion of the Bodysnatchers with Donald Sutherland.
10) Unbreakable.
etc.

1. Planet of the Apes, no question. Totally blindsided me, and it was incredibly powerful.
2. Usual Suspects. This was the first movie I ever bought on DVD.
3. Sixth Sense. Incredible ending, what a movie.
4. Swimming with Sharks. The ending to this surprised the hell out of me! Another great performance by Kevin Spacey too, gotta love it.
5. Fight Club. Didn't see this coming, but the surprise didn't blow me away like the others.

Isn't this The Vanishing, although I only saw the American Version, and it pisses me off that the ending to the original ends like that. What a downer.

Great movie. It shocked me too, very atmospheric, and also, when it was actually happening--the climax, I thought it was a dream, the movie needs to be seen at least twice to be appreciated.

Yes, the remake is horrible. Just wanted to say that this is not a french movie. It's from Holland. "L'homme qui voulait savoir" witch we can translate to "The Man who wanted to know". The american version is "The Vanishing" and it is really lame how they fucked up the whole movie.
For my top 10, I would go for
1- Fight Club
2- The Shawshank Redemption (best happy-ending ever, nuf said)
3- Don't Look Now(but well, I knew it before I saw it http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif)
4- Memento
5- The Usual Suspect (I love the greatest trick of the devil hehe)
6- The Game
7- Jacobs Ladder
8- Sleepaway Camp (more people should see this movie)
9- Se7en
10- Twelve Monkeys
I forget a few here, like Dark City, Unbreakable, The Others, etc.

I didn't see it coming either. It was a very cool twist
1. The Sixth Sense
2. Arlington Road
3. Identity
4. Se7en
5. The Usual Suspects
6. Primal Fear - pretty similar to The Usual Suspects actually
7. Fallen - a very cool twist
8. Bandits A very cool twist at the end that I certainly didn't see coming
9. Confidence Again this was has a very cool twist involving Andy Garcia's character
10. The Game
Personally, I kinda saw the ending coming to Unbreakable. But it was still cool. Fight Club and The Others deserve honorable mention as well. And I can't say I saw the ending coming to Along Came a Spider, but I can't say I cared much either.
Honorable mention:

Jacob's Ladder
Rebecca
Golden Ghost

ARLINGTON ROAD was excellent, too.
