Does anyone else remember the 80's horror series Monsters? I remember seeing commercials for this when I was a kid, but I only caught one episode.

There's not much info about it on the net. So I thought why not start up a discussion thread? :D

I totally remember that show. I remember the opening with the Monster family watching tv. I think I was about 13 or 14 at the time and couldn not have been more into horror movies. I also remember being disappointed in nearly every epsiode and thinking that it generally sucked. I watched it solely for the fact that it was a monster show on late at night.

I'm pretty sure David Johansen was on an episode that took place in a Spanish style mansion. Or was that Meatloaf?

I think it was shown in a block with "Freddy's Nightmares" and maybe even the "Friday the 13th" series. All pretty disappointing, but the Friday show was at least an originaly concept. It probably would have been pretty decent if I could have gotten around the fact that it had nothing whatsoever to do with Jason, Crystal Lake or the movies in any way.

Thanks for the flashback!

i saw a few of these last year, they were fun, very odd and sometimes stupid though...the one i mainly remember was called Holes i think, about soldiers during Vietnam in underground tunnels

My first instinct was wrong. From Meat Loaf's credits on IMDB:

"Monsters" playing "Dr. Willard Wingite" in episode: "Where's the Rest of Me?" (episode # 1.6) 26 November 1988

Here's the link for the series page on there: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094512/

Pretty interesting. It also had the following guest appearances:

Steve "The Man" Buscemi

Tepmestt Bledsoe (surprised Bill let her do this - bet she had to agree to no sex scenes with chickens or a character that is upposed to be her Father)

Laraine Newman

Jeff Conaway

Rich Hall (does anyone else remember this guy? IF I'm not mistaken he invented the word "spork" and was on "Not Nevessarily the News")

Tori spelling

Adrienne Barbeau

Linda Blair

Rob Morrow

Darren McGavin

Soupy Sales

Gina Gershon

Richard Moll

Barbara Billingsley

Frankie Faison

Leif Garrett

Jerry Stiller

Abe Vigoda

Julie Brown

Matt LeBlanc

Wil Wheaton

John Saxon (two different episodes)

Deborah Harry

Richard Belzer

Pam Grier

Clearly anyone that had it going on in the late 80's stayed far the hell away from here. Pretty sad when the two most happening guys on the list (at the time) were probably Darren McGavin and Richard Moll, enjoying their "Christmas Story" and "Night Court" fame respectively.
