This is honestly one of the best films I've ever seen. Pure ass kicking, testorone fueled, manly action movie. 4 x 4s, shotguns, machine guns, poles, axe fight, humor, great fight scenes, great acting...
This movie was incredible. Most of the people who don't like it just bitch about the plausibility. My reccomendation is don't go see movies starring an ex-wrestler and an ex-Jackass, centered on ass kicking, and be surprised when it isn't Oscar material. The plot worked...I'm not a lawyer, I don't know how plausible everything in the film was, but I didn't think once about plot holes while I was watching the movie.
If you like ass kicking, go see this movie. It owns.

(I don't disagree with the content of the thread, just the title is kinda over the top)

I still haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. Most of the bitching that I've heard was about the film having continuity problems, and those being from people who dig the Rock's other movies. Basically, I don't think it has to do with people's personalities, or expecting oscar material (though calling it one of the 'best ever' seems like it), but maybe they just really didn't care for the film.

Well let me be the first to say wrong forum ;)
Also, I thought the movie was pretty mediocre. Some unintentionally fun parts, but it was way too short in the end.

I enjoyed the movie. It's not great, but it's fun. The Rock proves that The Rundown was no fluke and he's a real star. Johnny Knoxville was surprisingly decent. Ashley Scott was hot as hell. Neal McDonough rocked as the bad guy. It's a one dimensional role and McDonough is capable of SO much more (watch the TV show Boomtown to see the great range he has!) but it's a fun turn and there is nothing wrong with that. The whole movie is one dimensional but it has some funny moments and kickass action and is just alot of fun!
This movie gets a 7/10 from me.

I suggest seeing the original.
I have yet to see it, but from what I hear, it's much more brutal and better overall.

maybe he saw something different, because i'm pretty sure "walking tall" is shit from fade-in to credits.

Though I liked the movie and found it quite fun to watch; with pretty good performances all around, for what it was... I would say that my being VERY hesitant to call it one of the best of all time or even a classic would be an understatement.

Is Walking Tall a good movie: Yes, its a damn fun movie, pop corn film making at some of its best, but it isnt like a cinematic tour-de force kind of thing. So there fore, the answer to : is Walking Tall one of the best movies ever?, is a no. But, to each his own.

If this is your opinion of one of the top movies of all time, I don't think I want to know the opinion of the worst..

Best Movie Ever? Not Likely. Did I enjoy this movie .....Hell yeah! The major problem was that it was way too short. Didn't have enough time to build up the hreal hatred between the Rock and Neal. The original Was good and Buford Pusser went through alot more in that movie but it wasnt as action packed as this one. They should have added alittle more of the original and it would have been better. No Oscar for it though.

He's blunt, but he's got a point.
I just want to say, with all due respect to other people's opinions (for once), I think this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I mean, when I entered that theatre, I was in the mood for a stupid movie, as long as it delivered the goods as far as action went, but to me, it really didn't. I checked my watch more during the 70 minute runtime of Walking Tall, then during the 4 hour director's cut of JFK, and to me, that's pretty sad. The movie had one dimensional characters, tons of action movie clichés (yes, it even has the one where a group of bad guys take machine guns to the guys house--and fail to kill him), and was just generally boring. And I'm glad it reads INSPIRED by a true story, because it's far off factually, and every story is inspired by something that happened. 2/10

I thought Walking Tall was a so-so movie. ...that's all I really have to say.

I haven't seen it.
But I want to, because unless i was misinformed, Rock's character doesn't use a gun, which piqued my interest.

It's actually hilarious how mediocre this movie is. It basically defines the term. I'd rather watch Road House on TBS for the 1,000th time than watch this again.

I disagree.
The movie sucked...ass.
What was it, like 75 minutes long? Bad acting, script, well, basically everything.
Two thumbs down.
I concur. Walking Tall sucked. And how long was Johnny Knoxville actually in the movie for? 15 minutes? Anyway, I thought it was too over-the-top to have been based on real events, and it pretty much lacked in personality. It turned out to be just another 'shoot 'em dead' movie. Blah.
