The Spy Who Loved Me & Moonraker are essentially You Only Live Twice re-visited if you ask me.

They even had the same director in Lewis Gilbert.

That's an excellent point, but most would argue that every bond film is essentially an earlier one in some respect.

For instance, the similarities between Goldfinger and Die Another Day are incredible.

But yeah, those three are remarkably similar, especially since SWLM and Moonraker were released precisely 2 years apart.

Apart from the fact that one is a good film & the other most patently isn't.;)

Wasn't the original Bond adapted from a book?

Most Bond films were given the title of one of Ian Fleming's books, and the basic characters and plot outline, and then they took scenes and gags from all the different books.

So each movie is kind of an adaptation of several different Bond novels.
