This slasher belongs to my top 10 slasher movies.
I really like this movie because of its atmosphere which is typically 80's.
Not only for that but for the different tones it has.
Homosexual, pedophilia undertones.
I also like how the teens play. They really look natural and they behave like normal teens at their age. They use gross language, they play pranks and I have to say I like that.
Every-body knows this movie for its ending but believe me this film is better than that and do not watch this film only for its shocking ending.
The score is also good and creepy. The three songs are a bit cheesy but they work well and fit to the movie.
The characters are memorable (the bitches Judy and Meg, Mel, the cook and the trio Paul-Angela-Ricky)
Very entertaining, never boring.
Overall note: 8/10

Sleepaway Camp, is about Angela Baker, who after losing her family due to a boating accident when she was young makes her very shy and she now lives with a stepmother. Angela, is sent with her cousin Ricky Baker, to Camp Arawak. While there Angela, is sent to the girl's cabin and is picked on by the girls and she doesn't participate in any of the camp activities. Ricky, tries to stick up for her as much as he can but he is not always around. Angela, soon becomes friends with Ricky's friend Paul, and Angela starts to talk more. But during this several people at the camp are being murdered and the counselors are trying not to tell or show the kids so their parents won't find out so that they will never send them back again. The camp counselors and the police do not know who the killer is but the killer keeps on striking. Sleepaway Camp, has become a cult classic through the 80's and today and is mostly talked about because of it's surprise ending which I will address later on in this review. Six scenes had to be shortened in the film to avoid getting an X rating and so far the cut material is not available on DVD or video to see. And now on to the ending. Before, I saw this film I was mostly told to see it because of the ending and how good it was. The type of endings I'm getting sick of seeing are ones like in The Sixth Sense, where the ending is so obvious but some people think it's so spectacular and go on about it causing people to go see it and spawning other recent horror films with similar type endings. Those, I don't like. Endings like in this year's great film Frailty, and Sleepaway Camp, I do like. This ending I could not see coming and unless you have been hinted about it or read a little too much about it on the internet then I don't think you will get it either. And the ending will stay in your mind long after you watch it making it a powerful scenes. As for the rest of the movie I enjoyed it too and was entertained the whole time and I hope this cult film finds more viewers now on VHS and DVD. This film was also so popular that two sequels followed.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thaught this,
I just watched this last night and although I enjoyed it I ddid feel that in a few places the children where being slightly exploited, I don't know maybe it was just me. Pretty good film but I've had the ending ruined for me ages ago, I guess thats what I get for waiting so long before watching it.
