Anyone here seen Lust for a Vampire? Im thinking of buying it but dont know if its any good or not.
I like the fact that Ralph Bates is on it cause he is one of the finer Hammer actors in my opinion, I think hes been great in all the Hammer films he has been in and also I think it has something to do with the Kerstein series?
Oh and is Ingrid Pitt in it as Carmilla?
I loooved Vampire Lovers, I thought it was awesome. Just wondering.

Yep, it's part of the Karnstein sort-of-trilogy, following Vampire Lovers and Twins of Evil. Ingrid Pitt isn't in this film - the main female vampire is played by Yutte Stensgard, who IIRC is a student at an all-girls school where a timid teacher (Ralph Bates) becomes obsessed with her. I've had this film on video for several years and will probably get it on DVD at some point. I think Vampire Lovers was a bit better though.

I'm afraid this is one of Hammers worst efforts . It's nowhere near as good as Vampire Lovers or Twins Of Evil but it does have its moments . Mostly when Yutte gets her kit off .
For Hammer completeists like yours truly only .

Hey thanx Cushing and Richard, Im curious cause Ive had it in my hands a couple of times but for some reason Ive been reluctant to buy it.
But hey, Cushing, much like yourself Im a completist, so Im probably going to get it.
I absolutely loved Vampire Lovers, but it looks like Lust for a vampire is just a watered down version of that one. Oh well, I guess Ill just get back to you guys after I see it! Thanx.

I could've personally used a little more girl/girl action in this one.

My introduction to Hammer Horror comes courtesy of Ratlehed (stand up and take a bow dude) who was kind enough to supply me with a copy of... LUST FOR A VAMPIRE! DUN DUN DUN!
Of course the saving grace of this film are the women. Man I don't think I have ever seen such a gorgeous group of females. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of Dracula/vampire movies and storywise the film didn't do much to change my mind.
Also, I like the townfolk mob scene at the end. It reminded me of oh so many group mob scenes showcased in THE SIMPSONS. Ha ha.
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Vampire Circus and The Vampire Lovers are better films Hammer made when they added nudity to thier films. They have some very fine looking ladies in them as well.

Lust for a Vampire was ok. Weak acting( except Ralph Bates.) Hammer always had hot actresses. The acting sometimes suffered. For me, any Hammer film is worth a look. I'm looking for Twins of Evil and Vampire Circus.

I had to buy DVDR's of Twins of Evil and Vampire Circus at a horror con. The transfers were pretty good because they were copied from R2 dvds. You might be able to find them on EBAY. But they are pretty hard to come across.

You won't be dissapointed with either film. Twins & Circus are two of Hammers best 70's movies.
I met Damien Thomas who played Count Karnstein in "Twins" recently and he was great fun. He loved talking about making the film and is justly proud of it.

"Lust for a Vampire" is sub-par hammer but thatīs okay by me, itīs still good watch. It has virtually the same ending as "Twins of Evil" though.
