View Full Version : Aside from the original-- what is your favorite Elm St?

We all love the original classic Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm St. You probably wouldn't be in this forum if you didn't. It is widely recognized that the original Elm St. was the scariest and best of the bunch. The same could be said of so many other horror franchises really.

The question that I'd like to pose is:

Aside from the original, which is the best Fred Krueger movie? And why?

Personally I'd have to go with Dreamwarriors because it had the best characters. I really thought that the dream powers thing was kind of cool too. (well except the "wizard master") A young Larry Fishburne as well as recurring roles from Heather Lagencamp and John Saxon also helped this film tremendously. Krueger was starting to become Mr. Wiseass in this one but hadn't yet crossed over the line into total cheesiness. He was still menacing yet witty. I really dug the puppetmaster scene and it also has the coolest Freddy one-liner.

"Welcome to prime time bitch!!!"

I even dug (no pun intended) the cheesey looking stop-motion Freddy skeleton sequence at the end.

So how about you? What's your favorite sequel with the gloved one? (and I don't mean Michael Jackson)

I'd have to say Dreamwarriors as well, it has a great concept, likeable enough characters and some pretty groovy dream sequences, especially the "puppet-scene" and the "Prime-time" (possibly the most memorible deaths of all time in any Elm Street movie).

Downside is, Freddy isn't in the shadows as much which means hes more or less becoming the main star (as NOES4 proved to us) but its his "one-liners" that stick out the most as they have a certain dark meaning underneath, which supports Freddy's evil character.

All in all, this should of been the follow up to the original Nightmare instead of "Freddy's Revenge". A great film that stands on its own and still has the creepiness and somewhat scare-factor that is missing from NOES4. I'd recommend it.

Hands down DreamWarriors. It has the most interesting characters, the comedy of Kincaid, Do you like my body Joey?, and I love the set of the kitchen at the end.

Freddy Vs. Jason. I hate the rest of the sequels with a passion.

New Nightmare

A return to Freddy's frightening roots that was uber-clever before Scream even came down the pike.

Loved Part 4 better than all of em... Just thought it was kool how the main character gathered all of the kids' powers in the dream to kick Freddy's ass... And I of course loved Mr. Englund's performance as Freddy as always! Good stuff here, by far my favourite! (Yes I like this even moreso than the 1st! :p)

Dream Warriors: Best cast (Patricia Arquette, Larry Fishburne), good kills, Freddy's last stand before becoming a campy comic figure.

OR

New Nightmare: Scary, Post-modern and one of the most brutal kills in the series: "Hey kid, you ever play...skin the cat?"

I personally like Dream Warriors more than the first. Don't kill me... The first one comes to a very close second...

Next to the original, Part 4 has always been my favorite/the best of the sequels. Part 3 is creative, but I don't gotten into it as much, because I always felt it was too cheesy in a light-fantasy sort of way. Part 4 was more fun and stylish to enjoy, even if Freddy's scariness was starting to wear off.

New Nightmare is the best and most original Elm Street flick. Even more so (and better) than the first one.

Also am I the only one who liked The Dream Child a lot?

I like Part 5 a lot too. Underrated movie. Sure Freddy was too "funny," but damn it, I loved the gothic theme this one went for. It made up for cheesiness. The deaths were cool, but I would love to see the uncut version.

Im not sure. I used to love the hell out of 3 when younger but now...just seems to have a lot of weaknesses. I may dare to be different here and say new nightmare.

Fuck, does a bear shit in the woods? I had many a teenage slobber over her, I did...

Anyway, the Dream Warriors is my second favourite to the original - Not just for the nurse's body, of course, the characters and the music are also very good. :p

wow, no one liked Freddy's revenge? Yeah it had some blantent homo errotic moments, but it also had some very memorable moments. The pool party massacre was awesome, and Freddy's look was great, darkest he ever looked, and the premise was great too. Stayed true to the first but built on it with an original twist. I didn't care much for the soul eating crap established from 3 own. It was too cheesey, and Freddy wasn't dark enough. Two is my second fav.

Well, I got the box set for Christmas and watched em all. They were all pretty good but my favorite, other than the first, would have to be Dream Warriors. Absolutely loved the cast and it was just really cool. New Nightmare comes in at a VERY close second.

I go back and forth between Dream Warriors and Dream Master. They both give you characters that you really care about, not to mention contain Freddy's best one liners and some very cool deaths.

The third installment by far. No where near the original but a very solid horror flick.

I'd have to go with New Nightmare. I really dug the 'movie within a movie' gimmick. I also enjoyed the way it transformed Freddy back into an evil character, moving him away from being a comedian with an attitude problem.

My favorite would have to be the original A Nightmare On Elm Street and a close second would be A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 3 The Dreamwarriors.

I know it says aside from the original that's why I stated Part 3 a close second. I still must repeat aside from the original, A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 3 The Dreamwarriors would be my pic.

Look slightly to the left of this post. What do you think my pick is? THE DREAM WARRIORS has probably my favorite cast of any movie. I actually LOVED these people. The next in my order would be the original, THE DREAM MASTER, NEW NIGHTMARE, followed in no particular order by FREDDY'S REVENGE, THE DREAM CHILD, and FREDDY'S DEAD. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I'd have to say New Nightmare, mainly because it took a tired horror franchise and did something completely new and original (well, I think so...) with it.

Runner-Up is Part 3....As mentioned by teenkiller, it had an excellent cast who made great, memorable characters. Also, has one of my favorite Freddy quotes: "Welcome to prime-time, bitch."

Part 3's awesome. A great blend of the serious and slightly disturbing aspect of the first film and the goofiness of 4 and 6. Plus, The Wizard Master is the lamest character (in a good way) in any film ever.

Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Dream Warriors; great story, even better effects, yes, this was the one that started Freddy's downward spiral into buffoonery, but I was still very impressed with what Chuck Russell accomplished, not Wes Craven by any means, but job well done sir.
