Okay.. FANTASTIC!
read Arrow's review because the man put it into better words than I could've. Really.. It hit close to home in a lot of ways. I REALLY cant remember the last time I've ever felt the need to lock up my doors after watching a horror flick.
yowwwwwwwwwwwwwza.
So, people, spoil something for me.. what's the difference between the original and its yankee remake?

SPOILERS FOR THE VANISHING
Sluizer completely changed the ending (which I would rank as the best ever, along with Freaks) for American audiences. He rescues his wife from the coffin and they both survive if my memory serves me right. Spoorloos is fantastic. The way he planned the kidnapping to every last detail but had to change plans in the middle of the road was perfect.

This review is of the 1988 French and Dutch film The Vanishing (also known as Spoorloos). It is based on the book The Golden Egg, by Tim Krabbe. It is about a couple named Rex and Saskia. One day at a gas station Saskia, disappears and Rex can't find her. Rex, keeps looking for her for 3 years and then the person who kidnapped Saskia, confronts Rex, and takes him on a trip to show him what had happened to Saskia, and reveals his past and present life. Winner of The European Film Award for Best Supporting Actress (Johanna ter Steege, who plays Saskia), The International Fantasy Film Award for Best Actor (Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, who plays Raymond, the kidnapper) and Best Director (George Sluizer), The Mystfest Award for Best Screenplay and The Dutch Film Critics Award for director George Sluizer and the Golden Calf Award for Best Feature. A fascinating horror movie that makes you keep want to watching because you want to find out what happened to Saskia and as they grow closer and closer so does your interest.
