it seems to me that rock has been in a bit of an upswing lately - no more nu metal (thank god). so who are the rececent-esque artists that you are enjoying and hoping to see/hear more of?

- the killers: "hot fuss" has been the only cd in my car for awhile. i actually didn't like "somebody told me" when it first came out. however, i enjoyed "mr. brightside," and "smile like you mean it" sealed the deal for me.

- interpol: every time "evil" comes on the radio i kick myself for being too poor/busy to get "antics" yet.

- the yeah yeah yeahs: "y control" is fuckin' amazing, as is "tick."

- the white stripes: yeah, "elephant" is awesome, but i have a thing for "de stijl."

more to come...

How new are we talking about? I can't even think of a band or artist that has come out in the last year that is even worth listening to.

The White Stripes
Jet (some people think they're really annoying, but I don't hear them that often so I think they're alright).

As far as I know, that's it.

You're either looking in the wrong place or not looking hard enough.

These aren't exactly brand new acts by any stretch, but Chevelle and Audioslave have been pretty cool thus far.

Probably both. I'm not into the new music. They tend to be sell outs for MTV. Altough, Snow Patrol's CD is pretty damn good.

I've thought about this hard, and this seems like it would be the case only if MTV was your sole source for new music. Which I sincerely hope isn't true.

I saw the video for their new single on MTV2 and was soon to be found tapping my feet to it's ramshackle brilliance. Have you heard the album? Is it all good? Because Ladyflash is fucking godlike and i'm this close to just buying the album based on my opinion of that one song.

i feel so un-hip as i haven't heard of some of the bands you guys like. i was such a music geek in high school (smashing pumpkins, hole, anything alt), but i switched to movies in college and have been a film nerd ever since. but i'll definitely check some of these new (to me at least) bands out.

The Killers
Keane
Iron & Wine

Are three biggies for me.

Hot Fuss has been playing nonstop for awhile now, I got a bit sick of just Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me, so I bought the whole album...it strikes me as one of those albums that I'm going to associate with Fall 2004 whenever I hear it from this point on.
