Just heard that Puss-in-boots is possibly going to be made into a movie. What does everyone think of this?. I think it would be brilliant, he was definetly the star of Shrek 2. Antonio Banderas hasn't signed up yet but it wont be long before he does surely.

I'm not sure if a spin-off is necessary, but he was the best Character in Shrek 2. Might be good... I don't know.

I think it's probably a bad idea. Not because the movie'd be bad -- they can probably make a decent flick out of it. I'm just against the idea of milking every part of the cash cow you can just because you can make millions out of it. I don't like the idea of waiting after opening idea and deciding whether you'll make a spin-off or a sequel based on the number of dollars you've made or on what character the reviews like. Sequels and spin-offs should be made based on whether you have a valid story to tell.
But hey, off the soap box. I hope Banderas'll sign -- I like the guy, and he could use enough money to buy a Porsche or something. ;)

If done right, I'm open to the idea.
The only question is when they will release the film: before or after Shrek 3.

I'm open to the idea, but it may turn out to be a deal where Puss is better as a supporting character, and not strong enough to be the lead

RE:
That's how he comes off to me. I really liked him in Shrek. but he wasn't lead character material. Donkey was the best character in Shrek 1, but he could NEVER be the lead.

I disagree. I wouldn't mind seeing a Donkey movie at all. I think it could be great.
I haven't seen Shrek 2 so I don't know if this is good news to me or not.

Making this would just be milking the series for money.I rather see another Shrek before this.Like all big series like this it will probably spawn many straight to video titles in the future

I take it nobody has visited JOBLO's main page lately......
Puss in Boots news article pic It seems that crazy cat Puss-in-Boots from SHREK 2 (voiced by Antonio Banderas) was such a hit with the execs that they're giving him his own movie. In fact, DreamWorks has hired Ed Decter and John Strauss to pen the film. Don't whip out the balloons and candy just yet, though, as the movie may not be see a theatrical release. It seems the studio is thinking about a direct-to-video release for the fiesty feline. However, it is expected that Banderas would return for voice duties on the spin-off. The story is unknown at this point but I wouldn't be surprised to see Shrek or Donkey make a cameo as well as a side story involving a Puss-in-Pumps perhaps? Decter and Strauss have dabbled in family fare before as they wrote Disney's THE LIZZIE MAGUIRE MOVIE, THE SANTA CLAUSE 2 and are writing and producing THE JANE PLAN for Disney. This is, of course, in addition to the planned third and fourth SHREK installments that the studio is currently working on, which presumably would also feature Boots.
