Alright similar to the Zappa thread I made a few months ago, I want to get into some of Nick Cave's music but there's so much material I really don't know where to start. I've downloaded only a handfull of songs so far being "From Her To Eternity", "Tupelo", "Cabin Fever!", and his sweet cover of "Hey Joe" and I like all of the songs a lot. So can someone recommend me some songs/albums?

Get the 'Murder Ballads' album. That cd is simply phenomenal!

They have a greatest hits cd which is a good place to start which would let you get a feel for which time period appeals to you the most.

I personally think the boatmans call is the best cd they have ever made but it is a bit sappy :)

Every album is worth purchasing. The following, though, are outstanding and would be my first port of call...

Tender Prey
The Boatman's Call
Let Love In
Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus
Murder Ballads

Like I said. Everything else is worth owning and if you enjoy the five above then you'll like everything the great man has done.

I made a trip to the local album store and bought Murder Ballads and Let Love In. Both are fantastic albums. O'Malley's Bar has to be one of the most morbid songs I've ever heard. Ditto to Loverman off Let Love In. Stagger Lee is goodness too. As is Where The Wild Roses Grow. Tommorow or Friday I'll pick up some more albums.
