I'm sure with the title of this thread I excited at least three other nin fans with the possibility of a new studio album.....but I'm just referring to the downward spiral deluxe edition.
Anyone else excited for this? Or am I just a bit too obsessed?

What's been added to make it deluxe?

Not really excited....I already have The Downward Spiral so I don't need this one. To be honest though, I'm not really all that excited about With Teeth either.

Well it's a double disc. The first disc is just the downward spiral in it's entirety, although now it's in surround sound. The second one contains various 'rarities' (although I've already had most of them on various singles) and unreleased demos.
I think being a hardcore NIN fan is very demanding, I wonder if he'll have any fanbase left after With Teeth. Five year spans between albums just doesn't cut it these days.

Reading this thread I almost came but luckily I've been practicing Kama Sutra and held in back. Since I don't own the album I'll pick up this kick ass edition of it.

The new album HAS to be better than the last. That was a single album made into a double by lame filler.
It also needs to be far more aggresive for at least half the tracks.
Oh for the days of "Broken", "Downward" and the "Closure" videos.

You're in luck 42nd. Reznor claims the new album will be only 12 brutal, stripped down tracks. No filler, and only one instrumental. I happened to love The Fragile but it sounds like he's taking a step in the right direction.
But if it's as stripped down and raw as he says, why would something like that take 4 years to make?

I am looking forward to anything new from NIN. I also wish a new tour starts up soon. I have only been able to see NIN one time live and am dying for a second chance to see them live again. But yeah, it has been waaaaaayyyyyy too long since his last album.

Someone asked him why there wouldn't be any instrumentals on the new CD and he said that was thinking about developing an "instrumental" side of NIN. Meaning he's thinking about releasing an all instrumental CD of NIN work.

I honestly forget where I read it, but it was a while ago....if you've heard a more recent quote that there won't be any then consider me mistaken. I get all my info from theninhotline.com, which is basically a team of ultra devoted NIN fans that release any nin related news the minute it comes out. I honestly wouldn't mind a one or two at the most, but with this stripped down sound it sounds like he's moving backwards to the Fixed era.
Oh and there's a release date for With Teeth, March 24, 2005
But with Nin that's always fucking tentative.

Well, I get my info from www.nin.com which is the official site. Tenative is the right word. I hope it comes out next year.

I just read that the NIN CD "With Teeth" is gonna be mixed in 5.1 surround. Straight from Trent. I also heard a rumor, remember rumor, that "With Teeth" is gonna sound a lot like the Broken EP. So if you like the heavy-metal non synth NIN, you're gonna like it a lot. But again, that is a rumor.

Thank God!
I hated the masses of instrumentals on The Fragile. Apparently Dave Grohl drums on this record, which is nice.

I think the massive gaps in between TOOL records are ridiculous. At least there's a chance that a newie will be out next year.

Supposedly NIN is going on tour starting in March. Take it as a grain of salt.

Hmmmm...a gap of forever would do where TOOL are concerned. AWFUL.
The Instrumentals on 'Broken' were very good it has to be said.

OK, truth be told, the instrumentals were reasonably interesting - there were just too many of them.

I look at it like this, the name of the album is The Fragile. Something that is fragile can be easily broken. If it's broken, it falls into pieces. Some of those "pieces" are smaller than others. Therefore, some of the songs on the album are only "pieces" of other longer songs. Resulting in instrumentals. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I deal with all the instrumentals.
On the subject of Broken's instrumentals, I think Pinion is a great lead off track. And it works brilliantly for them in concert. Especially used with The New Flesh. Help Me I am in Hell on the other hand is a waste of space.
