What is the most realistic movie you've seen in your entire life?

The one that comes to mind for me, and I'm sure it'll be on the majority of people's lists...

AMERICAN BEAUTY

the saw is family

definetly the most relostic character and dialougue wise for me was in the bedroom in some pieces it felt like you were watching a documentary, you really felt that family's pain.

I have to agree with "the saw is family" here, In The Bedroom is the most realistic film to come out in a long time. The film was so intense and raw that it was scary.

American Beauty was so full of symbols, icons, and indexs, metaphors and tropes that I can't see for a second how it is at all realistic. That is not to take away from it at all.

I think Boys Don't Cry, for the achievements of all the cast, is the most realistically acted movie i've ever seen.

This Is Spinal Tap is probably a tie, though, since it is so believable and yet a farce (and one of the most brilliant comedies ever made). It's believable because it's a farce, and yet could be believed to be real in a second.

Un Monde Sans Pitié by Eric Rochant. Seriously, this movie is the best representation of the Generation X. The story can be resumed like that : an individualist that doesn't care about anything but to get laid.

I'll try to translate a part of the dialogue between the girl he is in love with and him.

-What you do out of your days?

-They pass

-You work?

-No

-Your on wellfare?

-No

-You Read?

-No

-You go to theatre?

-No

-You... play bowling?

*moving his head saying no"

-So you like girls...

*he smile*

The most realistic film i've ever seen is probably this 1971 Brazilian film called "How Tasty Was My Little Frechman"...absolutley horrible documentary type film about Cannibals in Soth America who capture a French Explorer...It was so boring and stupid, had to watch it in my Alternative Cinema class last semester.

ok being a teenager i found KIDS a shockingly true portrayl of how urban kids really are, shit its basically the same for suburban kids excepting all the hip hop slang and stuff, it was just like looking in a mirror at yourself and friend walking down the street talking about things, being wayout or your element, everything about it just echoes a persons life, i mean they see the polish kid and his father doing the horrible dance and tese cynical fucks actually care, they dont give a shit about most everything, but there is always something, for no reason at all that reaches out to them, just like anyone, the move is just shockingly real

MISFIT, if you thought KIDS was shocking, you need to rent its distant suburban cousin BULLY. Pure brutality, and the best film of 2001.

I have to agree with Bully
I found the murder in Heavenly Creatures very realistic (so much so that I still wince whenever I see it)
Though the form is very stylised I found the characters and their interaction in Magnolia very realistic as well.

That would be Boy's Don't Cry. Very hard to watch, especially the unbearable ending. I think that I might be missing one, I can't remember.....

Ghost World is the most realistic movie you've ever seen? Wow! Everyone in that movie (aside from the main characters) are stereotypes. They're like walking metaphors! If that movie is realistic to you, then I'd love to check out your life. Must be really interesting! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Same with American Beauty, to a lesser extent. But I guess I know what you mean. I loved both of those movies...

I must add Leaving Las Vegas.

A terrifying and realistic film on alcoholism and prostitution. It's very raw and moving. A great film.

10/10

Well, Ghost World was my choice but I just watched the excellant Requiem For A Dream so Requiem now takes over that spot. But, I will say that Ghost Worldwas very real. I mean everything that happened in that film is something I can see happening in real life something I could see happening to you or me. In fact I went through a very similar situation a while back between my best friend and I. We grew apart and met other people, we just didn't get along as well as used to, kind of like Thora and Scarlett. We still talked but we never really connected anymore and one day I just up and left to New York with no good bye or anything, I just left. Ghost World hit me very close to home.

One film, and that one film is The Siege. It wasn't that important of a movie when it was first released in 1998, but it is more important than ever now. That film was more than a film, it was a prediction of things to come. After 9/11, many, many people saw this film in a different way, and it clearly shows now. The reason why it is realistic is that it related so closely to political events nowadays, it is probably as real as it gets.

In total agreement. What amazed me about that film was how it depicted a horrific relationship that goes beyond any normal comprehension, but the way that the family falls apart is spectacularly real. Makes painful viewing.

Honestly Mr. Cyclonus sir, i see in no way how Saving Private Ryan is remotely realistic. You probabaly say it is realistic because of the extreme gore at the beginning of the movie. Yeah, that is how the body reacts from being shot or blown up but the film is in no way realistic. The Omaha beach assault lasted for over four hours. And those characters, especially that guy from Brooklyn is so fake. No one makes jokes while they're being shot at. This movie is just a typical war action film. You want a realistic war movie, see The Thin Red Line.

Okay, I'm not going to go as far as slamming you for that statement, but I will say that in my opinion you could not be more wrong. Have you been in battle? I have, more than once. People, especially soldiers, most definitely do make jokes while being shot at. Without humor, a good portion of soldiers would freeze up, or go insane. And, the reaction of the soldiers on the mission was quite well portrayed. As much as they did not outwardly want to risk themselves to save this one soldier, they knew that it was the morally right thing to do. That is how our all volunteer military survives. A soldier knows going in that they will not be left behind, at whatever cost. We will risk a batallion to save one soldier.

I thought SPR was probably the most realistic war film ever made. I speak from some experience.

Solaris (9/10?) is an incredilbly believable and and realistic future , as is Gattaca (9/10). American Beauty (10/10) is another realistic movie, but really there are tons, it's just most people automattically think of war movies when you say "realistic".

Woa! wait a second mr. Toast.... I happen to know a few dudes just like Edward Burn's character in Saving Private Ryan. Alot of New Yorkers are just like him! I know what you mean by the clichy humor in the heart of battle, but Saving Private Ryan is one of the few movies out there that depicts an honest mood in the war, i didn't hear him say jokes while being shot at. Besides, like Grebdron said, G.I.'s were more than brothers and did joke alot, what else would they do to keep their minds out of the shit they were in?

The Omaha assault in all did last about four hours, but each fleet was assigned a different section (dog 1, dog 2, ect.). One section would of landed long before the next. Each section only lasted an hour (if that) to take the beach, after that, they had to clear the fields and make way for the heavy artilary, which took a while.

Saving Private Ryan in my opinion, is the most honest war film ever made
