I've never been a sci-fi nerd, but my mind is gradually opening to straight sci-fi fare. Phantom Planet isn't straight sci-fi fare, but it's close. An astronaut inadvertently winds up on a planet inhabited by six-inch primitives. The planet's atmosphere shrinks the reluctant astronaut (no, he isn't played by Don Knotts) down to size. A fairly engaging antiquity, although it's emphatically cheesy. It was featured on MST3K, and is infamous for its "popcorn chicken" asteroids. The Solarites - sweaty, lubberly actors in schlockgasmic creature suits - are a riotous sight to behold. Recommended for those who fancy themselves as a pullulating Tom Servo.

I'm not into straight Sci-Fi either (cause, you know, I wouldn't want to be labeled a nerd!), but that 50 movie pack at Best Buy fucking SCREAMS at me whenever I walk in....

Saw this a little while ago too, very entertaining B-movie cheese. This was one of the few sixties sci-fi movies that truly retained the aura of 50s schlock! Not only that, but it surprassed many of it's predecessors in quality crap filmmaking.

Honestly, there's quite a bit of melodrama (common amongst films at the time) and the science fiction is mostly do to the setting and side problems of the film. The core of this movie is based on the love triangle that spawns from the earthly hunk of man meat that the two alien girls swoon for.

Pure fun, innocent and innocuous, a favorite sci-fi pick of mine.

Yeah, the sci-fi collection has a number of appetizing titles in it. Most of them could pass as horror outings.

I've got the horror pack and its really, really, REALLY worth it.

Either way, I think I've seen this MST of this.. did it feature Morrissey impersonation?

edit - never mind. :( That was City Limits.

I don't think so, but then again, I wasn't on the lookout for Morrissey impersonations. I suppose that every film should boast at least one Morrissey impersonation, though.
