In my opinion, this Dracula film is defenitely one of the best Hammer Horrors. What do you guys think?

I enjoyed Prince of Darkness, but what I didnt like was the fact that Dracula is hardly in it! Not only that but Dracula doesnt even say a single word on it!

Its not one of my favorites simply because of that....if you see the movie you will notice that he doesnt appear until the movie is about 50 minutes in!

But aside from that, I enjoyed the acting and the sets. And I think it was well directed.

I really like it , it definately is one of the best sequels but Dracula a.k.a. Horror of Dracula will always be my fave .

Both this and 'Horror of..." are vastly overrated.

"Prince" has some effective set-pieces but for most of it's running time it plays like a Sunday TV costume drama.
It's stodgy and dull.
And Lee's psychotic mime Dracula loses so much when not given any dialogue.

Anyone who has read the novel will know how effective Dracula's dialogue is and anyone who has seen his opening scenes in Jess Franco's flawed "Count Dracula" will see how good he could have been if 'Hammer' had written some decent speeches for him.
His speech to Van helsing by the altar, in the vastly underrated "Satanic Rites", also shows how effective he can be when the character is given dialogue.

Thats true his got some good dialogue in Satanic Rites near the end when he's complaining about how bored he is of eternity and what have you...but the movie itself stunk. I didnt like the modernization they did to the count. Plus I didnt enjoy the James Bond-like elements that they added to the film. Basically they turned it into a james bond flick with Dracula in it. And the music?

Yeah, the movie has a realdrive-in feel to it. Motorbike chases, machinegun shoot outs, topless girls, fist fights. They just took a bunch of different popular film themes at the time and crammed it into 90 mins. Also Draculas death is so dumb.

Personally, I enjoyed the music to The Satanic Rites of Dracula, although, the best music from Hammer is from Horror of Dracula.

Just watched Dracula P.O.D. It was OK, I enjoyed Horror of Dracula and Dracula has risen from the grave alot more. "Prince" has a few good moments though.

Wow, I'm confused as hell.

I have seen a Dracula: Prince of Darkness, but I dont think it was hammer, it didnt have Lee, and it's not what you guysare describing. Maybe I am thinking of Dracula: Dark Prince or something? Gets confusing!!

The one in my head is the TV version with Vlad the Impaler, not really a vampire flick, and his rise and fall, blah blah blah.

Too many Draculas, too little brain cells

Yeah that was Dracula: Dark Prince. I think it was made for USA or something. Dracula: Prince of Darkness is the seqeul to Hammers Horror of Dracula.

Thanks for clearing that up. I can now stop making a fool of myself with it. Well, for awhile anyway, until something else comes along :D

this was the first Dracula film i ever saw and loved it, Lee's performance is excellent and it has some amazing sets, upon seeing part of the film recently it didnt hold up to my memory of it but still looked great
