View Full Version : THE BEST PLOT TWISTS IN A 2001 MOVIE
Antonio

1. A BEAUTIFUL MIND
2. THE OTHERS
3. VANILLA SKY
4. MULHOLLAND DRIVE
5. MEMENTO
~SPOILER ALERT~
The twist in A BEAUTIFUL MIND really blew me away because I had no idea (even though I knew a little about John Nash's condition) what was happening. THE OTHERS has been dismissed by some as a ripoff of THE SIXTH SENSE, but I found it equally enthralling. The twists in VANILLA SKY, MULHOLLAND DRIVE and MEMENTO were ambiguous at best, leaving the viewer with a lot to ponder and discuss after the final reel.

BANDITS
OCEAN'S 11
SERIES 7: THE CONTENDERS (that final shot shocked me and cracked me up)

The Others!!!!!
I personally didn't think A Beautiful Mind had any twists, however that is mainly due to the fact that I already knew all about the man, and had read Sylvia Nasser's novel.
The twist for me in A Beautiful Mind was that I had only seen the previews and those were purposely making the movie look like an action film, where Nash is being used by the government. So when it turned out to all be fake I was just blown away.

i loved the false advertising for A Beautiful Mind.i thought it was going to suck judging by the previews but it ended up being genius.

"The Others" is the only movie from 2001 I can think of with an amazing twist .. 2000 was littered with good ones (scream 3, final destination...)

1. A Beautiful Mind (Didn't even know who the man was before the film, and the twist cought me totally off gaurd, but, in a good way)
2. Memento (***SPOILER WARNING*** I never had any idea that Lenny was actually Sammy and that he actually got those clothes and car from the man he killed...Total mind rape)***END OF SPOILER WARNING***
3. Ocean's Eleven (The way the eleven guys pulled off the final hiest is brilliant... Never saw it coming)
4. Bandits (This twis was absolutely genius... Oh my god the way they pulled off that crime is classic!)
5. The Mexican (Not much of a movie but the twist is a good one and I actually never saw it coming.)
- That's all I can think of... I'm sure there are more out there though... I didn't care for the ending of The Others and Vanilla Sky, and I never saw Mulholland Drive.

The part where we find out that James Gandophini isn't the guy he said he was. But, the african american that was shot by James was. And then of course there is that part where Pitt shoots Gandophini. Not much of a twist but I had to put it down to make an even five.

Well, if its not much of a twist than why you write that it was a good twist that you never saw coming?? You confuse me sometimes. Anyways, ill go with The Others. Even though I had seen the original, and knew what was gonna happen, it was still the best plot twistin 2001. ABM - I had already read the book, so I knew that it wasnt really happeneing. And DCT, if you really want to know who the man John Nash really is, than may I suggest the novel, because the movie does not portray him much how he was at all. In reality, he was a homosexual, divorced his wife and had an illigitement child, hated Jews, and was constantly annoying his friends with all kinds of inane conspiricies.

Nope, don't give a shit about no John Nash novel. I learned enough in the movie. He was scitzophrenic, went to Princeton, and won the nobel prize. That's all I wanted to know and that's all I needed to know about the man. The film was good enough for me and I already know it wasn't good enough for you and I already told you in one prior discussion that I didn't intend to read the book and nothing has changed since then.
As for The Mexican twist. No, I never did see it coming. I mean it wasn't a huge twist like The Sixth Sense or Fight Club but it was good enough for me and it's the only other twist that I liked in 2001. It's basically in my top 5 just filling an empty space.

Oh yeah, that sounds like it would have made a great movie! Let's take the whole family to see that one!
For me, Dumb-Fokker, I don't give a damn whether the John Nash from the movie is like the real John Nash. I didn't go for a biography (although I'm sure some did), I went for a good movie. And I got it.
I don't know if DTM is the same way or not, but that's how I feel.

I like a twist that makes me think, not like the one in A beautiful mind that discredits the whole movie for me.

Sorry guys, but I'm with DumbFokker here....I personally would have preferred seeing a realistic depcition of John Nash's life than a sugarcoated version.
That aside, A Beautiful Mind as a film was excellent, 9.5/10 from me.
DTM and ColinM...I highly recommend that you guys read Sylvia Nassar's novel on John Nash's life. It is very fascinating.

I'm sorry, Ideal. But, for the last time no. I learned all I wanted to know in the movie, I don't need anything else. I'm sorry, fascinating or not a John Nash novel just doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Sorry man, but you didn't learn even half of who the real John Nash is. But anyways, no hurt in me trying to get you to see the truth.
Some like the truth raw and as is while others like it half baked.
Anyways to each his own!

Why do you think the ABM twist discredits it, but the Vanilla Sky one didn't? The Vanilla Sky twist seemed like it belonged to a completely different movie!
And ideal, thanks for the recommendation. I plan on reading the book soon.

No prob man. You will really enjoy it, it's a great autobiography of an astonishing yet very flawed man!
