In U2's new song Vertigo right towards the end of the song Bono sings in this really sweet voice

"I can feel your love teaching me how
Your love is teaching me how"

that verse gives me the good ol' chills all over my body. There's definitely more moments from different songs all around that i've gotten the chills from but I need some time before I remember what they were.

List yours?

- In The Musical Box by Genesis when Peter Gabriel sings in a low voice "And I want...and I feel...and I know...and I touch..." finishing with "The WALL!" and extending the word with the sonic assault of Steve Hackett's guitar, Mike Rutherford's bass, Tony Banks' organ and Phil Collins' thundering drums playing behind him. Possibly my favourite musical moment ever.
- The scream at the end of The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again

That damn voice that keeps saying "How Much Longer" during Loverman by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds

The amazing drumming combined with the guitar at the end of Scream Of The Butterfly by Acid Bath.

The scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again...and that magical, magical note in Unchained Melody. You know the one.

Shivaree's "Goodnight Moon" has an unbelievably erotic vibe in it. The best part is when Ms. Parsley sings the line: " There's a big black crow sitting on my window ledge". Especially the word "ledge". Wow. Gives me shivers every single time.

Also the instrumental version of R.E.M.'s Man on the Moon gives me the chills.

I'm sure there's more, but I just can't think of any right now.

U2:

The opening of "A Beautiful Day" and the lead into the guitar and chorus. I love that song.

"With Or Without You" - The opening and the rising vocals.

Van Halen:

"Right Now" - The piano opening is great. On the live album, when it starts, the audience explodes. I love that. I also adore the guitar solo. Eddie Van Halen is the king.

"Panama" - The guitar intro used to pump me right up.

"Jump" - The guitar solo is what I love most. It was the beginning of a new era for rock music. This song made them into a household name.

"5150" - Alex Van Halen's drumming made this song one of my favorites. The lyrics showed Sammy Hagar's depth as well. This song still gives me chills.

Metallica:

"Nothing Else Matters" The intro and the lyrics gave me chills. Fantastic song.

"One" - How can I put into words one moment 7 minutes 24 seconds of the best anti-war theme ever? It was incredible.

"For Whom The Bell Tolls" - The opening with the pounding drums and Kirk Hammett's amazing guitar sound grabbed me.

(And then they went into the toilet.) :(

311/The Cure:

"Love Song" - Before everyone gets their hackles up, I did enjoy the Cure's version when it came out. It was great. That said, 311's remake is just amazing. I was astonished at the haunting sound that the band had created. It really was as if the sound was custom made for the song. It gives me a feeling of euphoria to hear it.

Alice In Chains:

"Would?" - The opening bass and the chorus both. This is the reason grunge became popular. The guitar, the lyrics, the vocals...all of it.

"Angry Chair" - Again, a song that has a little something for every rock fan. I think this might be the most underrated band of its time.

Soundgarden:

"Black Hole Sun" - The chorus was the thing on this song. Hell, the video was one of the most original things I've ever seen, while I'm on the subject.

"Blow Up The Outside World" - The chorus and the ending, which on the CD fades into...

"Burden In My Hand" - I fucking love this song. I miss Soundgarden. Luckily, I have Audioslave to placate me.

The Beatles:

"Let It Be" - (This ought to piss off the young schmoes.) If there were a song that I could call an all time hit, this is the one.

"Imagine" - John Lennon isn't even my favorite Beatle, but this song affects me in a way no other can. It makes me miss him.

Led Zeppelin:

"Stairway To Heaven" - If there was one song that made a band into legend, this is it. I enjoy dozens of Zeppelin tunes, but none so much as this.

The part near the end (I guarantee I'm probably the only one in the world whos heard this song) of Marillion's "Grendel" where it gets really fast and heavy and Grendel speaks.

The chorus of Marillion's "White Russian".

Pretty much all of Tool's alternate version of "Pushit" from the Salival package.

Near the beginning of My Chemical Romance's "Cemetary Gates", where it first breaks into the chorus. "I miss you...I miss you..."etc.

U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" - all.

Any time it broke out into the main theme in the Requiem For A Dream movie soundtrack.

If that song is the one I think it is, then I've heard it.

Two really fabulous choices there.

My favorite part of The Musical Box is actually the last bit, the "Touch me, touch me..why don't you...touch me, touch me, touch me now now now now now..."part.

And all the anticipatory stuff that leads up to Daltrey's scream, the keyboard solo, the brilliantly paced, anacrchic drums of Moon that pick up intensity leading up to it, are so key. (And I always see, in my mind's eye, Townshend sliding on his knees in slo-mo, like in The Kids Are Alright  )

Let me think a bit.

There are so many...

The Smithereens-A Girl Like You: Don't know why...I just love it.

The Music-Getaway: Especially the closing of the song...beautiful.

Um, lets see.

Anything Tom Keifer (Cinderella) ever sang, especially his taceted vocals at the end of Don't Know What You Got (Till it's Gone) and Long Cold Winter. Anything by Randy Rhoads, and the transition Alex Lifeson plays at the end of the solo for Freewill. All kinds of chills. Also the Ozzy intro scream and guitar riff to Black Label Society's "Stillborn".

The bit in The Who's "I Can See For Miles" where Daltrey sings:

"You're gonna lose that smile, because all the while..."

Drums start to get louder, guitar gets more frenzied..

"I can see for miles and miles! I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and mileeeeeees"

Drums explode in a frenetic beat, the guitar fuzzes out.

Perfect, really.

Oddly enough, the biggest chills I get are in a rap song.

Blood Runs Cold - Jedi Mind Tricks

There is a verse that beings:

I'm tasteless, there's beauty in strange places.

Also...
Wrapped up in Books - Belle & Sebastian (when the harmonies freak out about 3/4 of the way through the song)

Wild World - Cat Stevens (but if you want to leave, take good care, I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there...) always gets me.

Push - The Cure (the opening riff)

I Remember - Damien Rice (when the chick drops off and his part comes on)

Having a Blast - Green Day (the chorus)

Runaway Train - Soul Asylum (the first verse)

The part in One by Metallica where Lars kicks in the drums and the song changes into extremely heavy and James starts shouting out "Darkness. Imprisoning me. All that I see. Aboslute horror. I cannot live. I cannot die. Trapped in myself. Body my holding cell......"

That point in the song, I may be jamming my ass off, but those lyrics are hitting me, and definitely sending chills up my spine.
