Tourist Trap is a quirky slab of southern-fried horror. I adore it, as it's similar to TCM. Don't be deterred by the PG rating. It's more unsettling than most R-rated genre trinkets. The Church is mediocre when stacked up against other Italian what-were-they-smoking-when-they-conceived-of-this splatter reels. I wouldn't buy it (ignore the fact that I own it).

Like has been said...don't let the PG rating put you off.
A solid, well made little shocker.
"The Church" has a few good set-pieces and a good score but is rather dull and overly pretentious, as with most Soavi movies.

Forget The Church and stick with Tourist Trap.
Oh, by the way Count, the DVD release of Tourist Trap restores the film back to its' originally intended R rating.

Once you get used to some of the quirks of Italian cinema, you can bring yourself to actually enjoy them. The Church was surreal and it has some creepy moments along with some gory ones...but some scenes wont make sense.
Id say if your not into Italian cinema (or a fan of Argento and Soavi) then rent it first, then decide if you want to own it.
I actually like it a lot.

Yes they are.
However these two movies are not what I would call mainstream.
The Church (Soavi) and Tourist Trap are pretty weird and have a strange atmosphere but I like that.
Tourist Trap and The Church are not gory at all it is all about atmosphere.

Haven't seen The Church, but I own the Tourist Trap DVD and love it. It creeped me out the first time I saw this on TV and after 20+ years, it still disturbs me. Perfect example of a horror movie that doesn't need gore or nudity to be entertaining.
