On MTV about 1/2 an hour ago, they played a minute preview of the Wonka movie. i've been online trying to find it since.
Did anyone see that? It was a bunch of scenes from the movie with this high pitched singing "Wonka! Wonka! Wonka!"
The Oompa Loompas were amazing.

this is gonna be sooo fuckin awesome!! i cant WAIT!!! :D :D
Just finished watching the trailer. Looks, um...interesting.
Apart from the obvious 'Burton-isms', it looks exactly like the original film, which is what surprises me most.
Edit: Let me expand on that comment - The production design of the factory looks almost exactly like the original from what is seen in the trailer. I was expecting a far more expansive chocolate river, etc, but from the trailer it has got the same look as the original - Like it was shot on a sound stage. I was anticipating a gargantuan factory that was seemingly endless, with massive gushing waterfalls of chocolate, etc.
Although, this is my own pre-determined idea, which is to blame for my initial disappointment.
This is my first impression. And that's just what I think from the trailer.

Amazing. This looks like a load of fun and another outragous character from Depp. His facial features (or the was he manuvers his face) seems like his Ed Wood character.

Certainly an interesting trailer. Tim Burton always comes up with visually stunning films and you can't go wrong with Depp, i'll be seeing this. Looks a little creepy though, but Depp's expressions are funny and he looks like he's having fun with the role.

In the trailer Depp seems to be having more fun than he knows what to do with, because he made me laugh on every attempt. Right on, this seals my anticapation in concrete.
OMG! THIS MOVIE LOOKS SOOO F-IN PIMP! TIM BURTIN IS A FREAKIN' GENIOUS! ive watched this tailr about 15 times now and it only make my anticipation grow higher.

I really, really do not get it. All I see when I watch that trailer is one long, crappy trainwreck. There is not a single moment of the entire trailer that I don't think looks any better than "White Chicks". In fact, I'm going to go on record and say the only movie I'm ever less likely to watch in my lifetime is this movie.
WTF does everyone see in this?
Okay, lemme break it down, just to go on record as having an actual opinion and not just being a complete idiot...
1-Looks like the original!?!?!? What about this even remotely resembles the original? Not any of the characters- especially Depp or the Oompa Loompas. Not the Oompas on the weird 60s band set thing... deal... whatever that is... not any of the set pieces... not the guy swatting at the weird wasp thing... not the boat going through the hallucination tunnell that's now apparently cough syrup flowing through industrial pipe... the "music" playing during the trailer sounds like something you'd hear off a Kidz Bop album... NOTHING is like the original.
2-WTF happened to Depp's face? They put a White Chicks mask on him? They needed a character who could look insane, so they add prostetics to Depp? That'd be like having Satan on set and saying "oops, I'm sorry, we need to make you look Satanic." Gene Wilder was absolutely, naturally, born insane. Depp looks more like he's just made one too many trips to the plastic surgeon.
3-Again, w...t...f... there's a giant doll, and Oompa Loomas on a 60's band stage (ripped from Austin Powers, mind you)... and instead of goggles for the TV transmission everyone has Jackie-O glasses on?
It's not dark, creepy, or anything else it tries to be. It's dorky and contrived. This movie is to "creepy" as the fact chick with the nose ring at the mall is to "goth".

you know everything about this movie just by watching like one minutte of the trailer? at least whait for the full trailer. anyway i liked it i cant wait to see it bt come on nobody knows what its going to be like. you cant make judgments on a movie on a trailer alone. whait unti the movie comes out BEFORE bashing it.

What "original?" This is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, not Willie Wonka and the Charlie Factory. No one was trying to re-do the Wilder version of the book. Burton is putting his take on the book, on screen. It's a bit strange to see someone watch a 30 second trailer, with quick, spliced screen shots, and then give a mulitple paragraph review of the whole film. Pretty amazing, in fact. There's a web site called Ain't It Cool News that is just crying out for your insights.

I think the main point of agentsands reply was that the poster seems to think this is a remake of the original film when it's not. The sad thing is I think alot of people are going to cry foul when they see this trailer and the movie and bitch and moan that "IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL!"

Well Roald Dahl's book is called Charlie & The Chocolate Factory sooooo Burton decided to go w/ the books true title...
I recall watching Willy Wonka on AMC ( I think) on their DVD TV and one of the facts that came on was that the first one was VERY WATERED down and Dahl according to IMDB's Trivia he HATED THE Movie version of his book. :D
Interesting......
The Dahl Family played (because Roald sadly passed on in 1990) a role in the updated version and pretty much approve 200% with Burton's take that is supposed to mirror the book.
I'm just not into this movie. Mainly because there's a version out already. I'm not going to shoot it down until I see it, but thus far I'm just not impressed.

It looks like a poor attempt at a Willy Wonka remake to me. And it looks like Depp was in the makeup chair for about 3 minutes, he doesnt even look like Willy Wonka.

All of this has been pretty well addressed. It isn't meant to look like the Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder. Apparently the book was meant to be more creepy, and this version follows the book more than the earlier Wonka movie.
I think this is a case where the movie will be marketed having a slightly different mood than it really does. They did that with Nightmare Before Xmas, and have done it with many other movies.

I have no problem with differing opinions...I have many myself. I saw a 30 second trailer and thought it looked interesting and fun. No way do I know what the actual film will be like...neither did that poster. He also saw a 30 second clip and wrote several long paragraphs ragging on how horrible the movie was going to be. He has a built in dislike for the idea of the film. He is upset that it's not a duplicate of Gene Wilder's version. By the way, nice language.

Seriously though, I wasn't that impressed by the trailer, but the film looks good. And there is a frenetic craziness about it all that is appealing. I'll at least give it a chance. How can you not with the Burton/Depp combination. And I will say that this reminds me in no way of his Ed Wood character. His Wonka seemed a little bored, and if anything, that's what I didn't like about the trailer.

Ugh! I love Johnny Depp and I've liked most of Tim Burton's movies but this looks bad. Really bad. So bad that it looks worse than Mars Attacks! And I HATED that movie!
The teaser was so bad it was cringe inducing imo. I'm not a fan of Willy Wonka so if they are trying to do something that's most DEFINATETLY cool with me because I thought Willy Wonka was downright dreadful. Unfortunately, judging from the teaser, this movie doesn't look any better. Infact, it looks worse. Much worse!
Someone compared it to The Cat in the Hat, I think this actually looks even worse than that movie (haven't seen it to this day)! I didn't think that was possible, but I guess it is.

Depp is great and everything........but am I the only one who thinks CRISPIN GLOVER would`ve made a great Willy Wonka?
I saw it before Ocean's Twelve, and I think it looks quite good. I'm not even going to bother comparing it with the 1974 version, as that went in a completely different direction than this one (or so it seems). Depp looked coolly creepy/creepily cool, and the whole atmosphere and vibe from the trailer was awesome.

Very different than what I thought it would be.
But I LOVE it, i've watched it at lease 10 times already.
When Burton first announced he was going to film this three names were rumoured to be in the running for WOnka: Depp, Michael Keaton, Christopher Walken. Now, I love Depp (Sleepy Hollow - great!!), but I really thought the idea of Walken as Wonka was just brilliant. Still, after watching the teaser, I've gotta say, I'm looking forward to this very much. And please... no more cries of 'remake'. It's based on the NOVEL.

Johnny Depp looks like he's really making an idiot out of himself. He did that in Pirates of the Caribbean but atleast that was a good performance in a good movie. Whereas judging from the teaser, this looks like a terrible performance in an even worse movie.
Out of all the movies Depp has done, the only bad performance I think he's ever given was in The Astronaut's Wife. That was the only time where I felt that he was slumming it. Where he phoned in his performance. Yet this performance and this movie looks FAR, FAR worse!

Is it just me or does Depp look completely like a fem in this trailer? Was an androgynos Willie Wonka Tim Burton's little way of trying to add to the bizareness of it? And is it also just me or do the sets look as though they were lifted straight out of the '74 version?
Oh well- I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't still planning on checking this out.

Maybe there's something that I (and the other haters) just don't "get" about this whole affair... but from where I'm setting, that trailer was really laughably bad.
