Oh, and let's not forget The Criminologist, masterfully played by Charles Gray, in The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
"I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey."
"It's just a jump to the left!"
"He's got no neck!"
Damn, I love that movie. I'm gonna go listen to the soundtrack right now!

Alec Baldwin- The Royal Tenenbaums
I'm not that big of a fan of him as an actor but he was great for the movie. GOOD WORK TEAM!!!!
Cate Blanchett's short narration at the beginning of Lord of the Rings just left me breathless in the theater. She has SUCH a powerful voice.

Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption and Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange. Definitely. I also liked the device of using Alec Guiness' voice in the scenes he was actually in, in Doctor Zhivago. Unique and very effective.

One great narration that hasn't been mentioned would be Giovanni Ribisi's from The Virgin Suicides. And what about Cher in Clueless! Priceless http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Actually Martin Sheen did not do the voice-over, it was his brother Joe Estevez's voice. Martin Sheen wasn't available to do the narration, so Coppola called in Joe because his voice sounds almost exactly the same. With that being said, my picks are:
Joe Estevez in Apocalypse Now
Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver
Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange

Sam Elliot in Big Lebowski
"Sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here - The dude from Los Angeles. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude. The Dude, from Los Angeles. And even if he's a lazy man, and the Dude was most certainly that. Quite possibly the laziest in all of Los Angeles County. Which would place him high in the runnin' for laziest worldwide. Sometimes there's a man, sometimes, there's a man. Well, I lost my train of thought here. But... aw, hell. I've done introduced it enough..."

I definitely agree with A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and APOCALYPSE NOW. TRAINSPOTTING is also pretty cool, and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD as well.
But my favourite narrator can be found in one of the most underappreciated movies on the board: Terence Malick's BADLANDS. Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm the only one around here who has even seen it. No best of list in this category is complete without Sissy Spacek's haunting voice-over.

Matthew Lillard's character, Stevo, in SLC PUNK.
Tim Allen's character, Eliot, in BIG TROUBLE.
Matthew McConaughey's character, (I won't say who), in FRAILTY.

Actually, there is another one: William Holden as Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard. That's just as good narration as the one in TKAMB if not, better.
