Gordon Acquires McGraw's Dying
Source: Variety December 13, 2004

Producer Chuck Gordon has acquired film rights to Tim McGraw's Grammy-nominated song "Live Like You Were Dying" for his Daybreak Productions, reports Variety.

The song, written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman, is the title cut of McGraw's eighth studio album. It's the story of a man who begins to live life to the fullest after discovering he has a fatal illness.

McGraw recorded the song shortly after the death of his father, former Major League pitcher Tug McGraw. The song and the album received Grammy nominations last week in the country music categories.

Gordon said the film project won't center on the McGraws but on the broader theme of dealing with death.

Didnt Michael Keaton do a movie with a plot like that? Getting cancer at a young age and trying live the best he can in his last days. I think maybe Nicole Kidman was in it?

most notably, Ikiru....but it's being remade, cause it's really old, and in Japanese, which i suppose makes it less a film in Hollywood

Japan and the Kurosawa estate should apoligize for making their films in Japanese...they never thought about mainstream America

The song is horrible, when I heard it I literally thought it was one of the most anoying and stupid songs I had ever heard, and my thoughts on a film based on the song reflect the veiws I have solely on the song.

I definitely agree... there's nothing special, or original about the song at all. Why the decision to make a film out of it is beyond me... like others on this thread have said, there are hundreds of films already like this. I bet the producers of the film will be kicking themselves when it doesn't make all the money they thought it would at the box office.
