I was watching Polar Express in 3D at the IMAX theaters (it is fantastic, by the way) and I happened to see the trailer to James Cameron's latest effort. For those of you who don't know, Cameron was the mastermind behind Terminator, True Lies, and Aliens. He did Titanic as well.

This IMAX film looks visually very stunning. I have never seen anything like it. Additionally, it was filmed in 3-D. You have to see it to know what I mean. Words cannot do the trailer justice. You can see it if you go see Polar Express in 3D. On an unrelated sidenote, Ebert called Polar Express the best 3-D experience he has ever had. I definitely agree, but I think that Cameron will shortly one-up Zemeckis (Cast Away, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and director of Polar Express) with this effort.

This is a documentary, but it will undoubtedly be a noteworthy milestone for film. One can only hope that he will use his 3-D experience to make another thriller. Based on what i have seen from the IMAX-3D versions of polar express and this trailer, I can tell you that this type of filmmaking adds an entirely new level of immersion to film. If you love film and you love seeing new things, then check both of these out.

I think it's wonderful how he's pursuing these things. He obviously has a passion for marine biology and documentation, and it's good to see him combine his passions while so many other directors nowadays are accused of selling out.

But I think it's about time for him to thrill the world again.;)

Imagine how thrilling it would be if he decided that he liked working with 3-d? I'd love that. It would revolutionize film overnight.

Methinks that it would be as huge as Star Wars was in 1979.

He's making Battle Angel 'Alita' using this 3-D technology, didn't you know that? It's been confirmed as his next flick. Should rock.

"We're in pre-production right now on a project called 'Battle Angel' which is something I've been working on for several years and we're just, we're finishing up the shooting draft right now. We've been designing, it's a big science fiction film and a couple things that will be interesting about this project," he says in the interview.

Cameron added that "the main character, even though it's a live action film, the main character will be done with CG animation and the second thing that's interesting is we're going to be shooting it in 3D using the stereo imagining system that we've been developing for the documentaries."

Maybe he can helm the 4th Terminator and make it a underwater adventure with TERMINATORS?!?! That would be awesome!
