I know that white noise looks like they are capitalizing off of the ring. But finally after all these years it looks like Michael Keaton could have something. I myself am just going to go see to hopefully help Keaton stay in the light this time. I used to be a huge fan but after Batman Returns it seemed that he just started doing less and less movies. So please everyone throw some love to Beetlejuice.

It does?
It only has a few similarities, to me at least.

I'll see it.

Amen to this thread.

Michael Keaton deserves a comeback. Let's hope he gets it with "White Noise".

I for one will be there on opening day.

It's really strange. Michael Keaton was in that cliched "Chasing Liberty" rip off just recently (as THE President!) with Katie Holmes...and, that movie was in and out of theaters so quickly nobody even noticed! It is fortunate then that people will not likely associate him with that flop. I'm expecing "White Noise" to be his comeback. Not only does it look scary, its one of the more original scary movies in a while (with no creepy Japanese dead girls with overflowing hair!)

Come on people. Get real. This movie is going to be fucking terrible. Clearly Universal just saw a trend to jump on by picking up this movie for distribution. Probably cost them very little, and so their risk is very little. Maybe it rides the success of all the Japanese horror remakes and makes a little money. If not, no big deal. It is being dumped in January, which is reason enough to be concerned. Will it even screen for critics? Probably not. And for good reason. I like Michael Keaton a lot, and if it's successful, I'd be extremely happy for him and would love to see his career get a jolt in the arm. But this movie will be awful. It'd be shocking if it's any good. Anything is possible, but don't bet on it. And does anyone honestly think this shit looks original? Please. The subject matter may not be overly familiar, but the movie itself looks anything but original.

People wont associate him with a flop because there isnt enough material out there right now to associate him with. Michael Keaton has barely made the smallest of blips on the radar since Jackie Brown, and even then it seemed like that was his turning point downward.
But lets admit it - he's done some damn good films. For example...
The first two films in the Batman Franchise? They grossed over $400m
Beetle Juice wasn't a blockbuster, but it didn't bomb either, and wasn't half bad
Clean and Sober? He delivered a great performance in that little movie
And Multiplicity really wasn't that bad! I laughed as a kid, I laugh as an adult. The only thing that bugs me is the way they pan in the movie. It looks so articificial.
But then theres My Life, a complete sobstory but a good movie, Jackie Brown, and more recently Live From Baghdad.
The point I'm trying to make here, is that Keatons really just a rising star whose elevator got stuck somewhere between lvl 40 and the penthouse. He rose up, made a change from comedy to drama (not too unlike Tom Hanks) and then never really kept moving.

Last time i checked this was a topic about Keaton not the movie. I will be the first to admit that if keaton wasn't in it. This topic would be very, very different. I love The Ring, that is all i am saying. But when i see an chance for a great actor to get some legs back under him. I will jump on it. We as movie fans need more actors like keaton to step it up and push these crappy movies out the door. Also another incentive to see the movie is rumor has it that the Official Ring 2 trailer will be shown before it.

So we are supposed to discuss Keaton but not the movie he is in that you are asking people to go to in order to support his career? This is the Upcoming Movies forum. If you want to only discuss Michael Keaton's career, go to another thread. Otherwise, I'm going to talk about White Noise here. Seems only logical to me.

I think that "White Noise" is unfairly is getting too much flack. I may be being biased because I really like horror movies, but I think this movie could be a genuinely old-fashioned ghost story.

But, there's something else to consider. The trailers and TV spots don't actually show off a lot of the movie's story. Does the movie spoil story developments, subplots and possible twists like so many trailers today? Absolutely not. Does it spoil some potential scares? Yes, but every scary movie trailer does. My point is that, after knowing very little about the story (all we know for sure is that Michael Keaton uses E.V.P. to contact his deceased wife) from the trailer, you can't really judge this movie. Well, you can. But, knowing so little, you have open your mind more and give it a chance.

Since no one has actually seen it yet, of course no one can say for certain if it is any good or not. But it has a lot working against it. The release date. The fact that it has yet to screen for anyone. The trailers working overtime to claim that it's "the most disturbing movie in years." If it really was, would you have to beat people over the head with it? And since no one has seen it, who really knows how much the trailer gives away? No one.
