For anyone who has the Region 2 Shaun of the Dead don't bother picking up the Region 1 release that came out today. I am dissappointed to say it is no different from the region 2 release. As a matter a fact it's a little worse. A couple of the video diaries were taken out and nothing at all extra was added. I am extremely dissappointed...I figured they'd add a few special features between the region 2 release and the U.S. release.

Do you usually buy the R1 and R2 versions of the same movie? I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, I'm just curious.

Didn't buy the region 2 traded for it on the horror board. No I usually don't buy non region 1 DVDs unless they come out in that other country long before they'll come out here such as Undead : Region 4. The other time I may buy a non region 1 DVD is if it has never been released here in the U.S. I got the code to make my DVD player region free so I can play any region DVD on it anyways. I also never had a problem double dipping if it's a movie I'm really fond of. Most of the time however if it's just something I want to add to my collection I'll trade for it.

It looks to be because they added an audition feature with cast auditions that isn't very long or interesting at all.

Yeah R2 was enough for me...

only question though -- does the R1 have a less funky frames per second? Seemed sort of, not choppy, but different compared to other movies I watch (primarily R1)

I believe there is a fundamental difference in the frames per second between region 1 and region 2 DVDs.

Yeah, I believe that's just standard PAL vs. NTSC differences.

Oh, Shaun of the Dead... this year's most disappointing movie for me. I was expecting so much from it, since I'm a zombie movie fan, but I got little , very little. I "smiled" every now and then, but I didn't laugh once. That scene where he goes through the perfect plan 3 times is the best one.
The Dawn Remake entertained me much more.

Shaun > 6/10
Oh, but at least the outtakes in the DVD made me laugh.

Yeah I know PAL and NTSC have different fps, but does it still look funky on R1? Because when I watched the trailer for this one (R1 trailer I suppose, lol it was on American site) it still looked funky.

SOTD was a great movie in my mind, but once again, we are treated to a crappy R1 DVD. Why is that? It seems everywhere else other than North America, countries get better editions of DVDs, and I'm not just talking about Shaun, either. The 2-disc Predator SE was released two full years prior to the R1 release, and FOX had the stupidity to remove the trailer for Predator and slap on EPK crap for AVP and I, Robot, keeping everything else the same. Then of course, there was this little thing:

Granted, that was Japan, but still. R2 fans got a less spectacular but still cool-looking booklet case for the set:

And we R1 DVD-philes get this 4 foot accordion digipak that's a pain to open and fold back up.

I see your point AxeGrinder, but this is the exception rather than the rule. For the most part, you American Schmoes tend to have the better deal.

1) Most of your films come out on DVD before we get them: right off the top of my head I'm thinking Dodgeball, Anchorman, Bad Santa (which is still in CINEMAS here), Donnie Darko (I had it on R1 a year and a half before it hit UK cinemas), the list is endless.

2) A lot of your DVDs have extras whereas ours don't (due to clearance or whatever, a lot of your extras don't make it to us). Key example was the easter egg in Austin Powers 2 (the Comedy Central Dr Evil thing): we didn't get that. We also didn't get mini-commentaries in the South Park season boxsets.

3) Finally, plain and simple, you chaps simply have more DVDs than us. You've got stuff that we just can't get (the Friday The 13th boxset, Everybody Loves Raymond, uncut Last House On The Left, Major League (the best sports comedy ever, by the way)... I could go on all day).

So although we get a couple of good ones every now and then (horror-wise I'm thinking Friday The 13th uncut and the Ring Trilogy boxset), you chaps over the water clearly have the best deal 90% of the time.
