In 1992 Buena Vista aka The Walt Disney Company Created a Distribution Deal with Miramax Entertaiment. A Deal That would help
expand the Buena Vista Home Video Library which at the Time was Primarly Walt Disney Picture, Touchstone Pictures, and Hollwood Pictures.
A the Time Miramax was Being Distributed under Live Entertianment, which would Become Artisan and then Eventually Merge under the Lions Gate Banner.
Miramax was responsible for some HeavyWeight Oscar contenders at the time. The Crying Game, Reservoir Dogs, and Basic Instinct.
After the Distribution Deal with Buena Vista Began. The Miramax/Dimension Films Banner would Supply Films like
Pulp Fiction, Scream, Halloween H20, Hellraiser:Bloodline, Priest, Exotica, Muriels Wedding, HIghlander: Endgame, Chicago, The English Patient, Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Scary Movie, Bullets over Broadway, Mighty Aphrodite, Ella Enchanted. and Many More.
This deal proved a great Success for Both Miramax and The Walt Disney Company. However it was decided by Micheal Eisner this year that In a cost Cutting Effort he would end this Distribution Deal in the Fall of 2005. It was also Decided by Micheals Eisner this year to end the Walt Disneys Distribution Deal with Pixar Animation, which has Given the Walt Disney Company some of its highest Animation Revenue that it hadnt seen since the Lion King. With that Traditional Animation Division Falling, This was a very Bold Move by Eisner. And considering that outside of Miramax Films, It is very rare that Any Film that has been released by either Touchstone Pictures or the Now Defunk Hollywood Pictures To actually Have any Oscar consideration.
The only Health Relationship that the Walt Disney Company still has Left is with Jerry Bruckheimer. and even that is coming to and end.
That would mean that the only other Director helping the Company would be M Night Shyamalan.
It has Occured to me as well that when Roy E Disney stepped down from his position in his own Familys Business, something must be wrong.
I Believe that Micheal Eisner is having an effect on the Walt Disney Company as well as their Partnerships.
Once the Pact with Miramax Ends, it may take a few months before a new Distribution deal is forged. which means Upcoming Films like Sin City, etc. may have to be shelved while waiting for a Dvd Release. However as in the past. The Weinstein Brothers have taken their projects to other studios when The Walt Disney Company was too Scared about releasing them, Dogma, FarhenHeit 9/11, and House of 1,000 Corpses were all to be released. But the Walt Disney Company forced Harvey and Bob to find another Release Distributer. While most Likely that wont have any effect of Sin City, other smaller films might suffer long term Problems. Prozac Nation is still awaiting a Release.
because the Walt Disney Company feels the Film is not to their Liking.
But also keep in mind, that Eisner right now is also responsible for the Song of the South not being released. Because he feels the Racial Overtones is not sutible for todays audience.
It was Announced back in the Summer that Micheal Eisner is being Impeached. and when his term is up. A new CEO will be named.
Which is why Pixar has moved back its release of Cars from 2005 to 2006. Hoping to secure a new Distribution Deal
Part Two Coming Soon..........
