"And as I work tirelessly to beat their videogames, Microsoft and developer Bungie are secretly working on a plan to bring HALO to the big screen. Variety reports that the company, who has resisted all previous temptation from Hollywood to turn their franchise video game into a film, is actively developing a HALO film on their own. Microsoft and Bungie are working on their own script, with the help of an A-list screenwriter, and then plan to shop the finished product to studios. There were rumors last month that Bungie had Ridley Scott (ALIEN) on the top of a short list of directors they'd be willing to work with."
As it is written in Joblo.com news, movie from XBox game Halo is in development. I surely hope that it makes to the screen. Why? Halo is one of my favorite games and I'm dying to see it on big screen. And when I read that Ridley Scott had been approached to direct, I couldn't believe it. My favorite director, who can actually make great war/action/horror movies with tons of effects and still not to loose the story, and such a great concept like Halo. I surely hope that Scott takes the job.
Afterall, videogame movies has, well, not-so-good reputation these days.
And NO, I'n not talking about Paul W.S. Anderson's movies. I like his videogame adaptions! Even RE: Apocalypse (Well, he only write it but still).

Now that's how to get this shit done respectfully. That way if it sucks (which I highly doubt given Halo's badassness), you CAN blame the series and its creators and not the hack (Anderson et al).
I think Ridley Scott would be perfect to adapt Resident Evil, too.

To be accurate, he's only adapted Mortal Kombat.
Wasn't bad. I liked it a lot. Would've been better with the R-rating, but what can ya do.

i seriously doubt Ridley Scott would ever adapt Halo or another Resident Evil movie, and i'd be pissed if he stooped so low

Name one video game movie that was actually good. Plus no oscar winning director would ever direct a video game movie

That's irrelevant. Video game movies aren't a genre, much to the chagrin of narrowminded Hollywood cocksuckers (the same ones who sit in cushy offices and greenlight remakes of obscure horror films from the 60s and 70s).
I have to ask you - Have you actually played Halo, Resident Evil, Half-Life or anything really, in which the story is a major component of the overall experience?

The trouble is Halo's story sucks.
The appeal of the game is in shooting shit at ridiculous breakneck pace.
Devoid of interactivity a film version would simply be like Starship Troopers minus the satirical elements.

i have played all three of those games and am a fan of them, the stories are good, but they are good video game stories not movie stories. The only point i'm making is that i seriously doubt an oscar winning director would ever helm a video game movie

Barring the interactivity factor, Half-Life is a movie.

A good story is a good story. Period.
Believe me, it's not that hard to craft a filmic narrative from a wandering, interactive one.

I'll have to disagree. I found the story gripping and epic, along with the REALLY good shit:
The appeal of the game is in shooting shit at ridiculous breakneck pace.
Ohhhhh yeeeeahhh.

Don't care for the game...and I could care less if they did a movie for it.

If its so easy to get a good story from a videogame, then why have all of the videogame movies sucked

Because Super Mario Bros., Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat, House Of The Dead and Street Fighter don't have stories. Some cool characters? Sure. But a meaty storyline that could be fleshed out into a 2 hour movie? I'm doubtful. MK has uber-interesting backstory, but the game itself is just a fighting tournament, so there's really no plot to grab onto.
And the one time that they have a franchise with an amazing story just meant for the screen...they cut it up and release the damn thing as a series of extremely bad action movies that have diddly dick to do with the games.
So to answer your question, the reason video game movies have sucked is simple - talentless douchebags have been the ones getting their grubby paws on them. And if the story was pretty much non-existent in the first place, that certainly doesn't help them ie. Street Fighter *shudders* Not that it would matter, though. They'd still manage to fuck it up even if they did get a piece of gold dropped in their lap. Resident Evil is a good example. It's like Paul Anderson was given a pristine new barbecue that was perfect the way it was, but he decided to take it apart so he could "make it again in HIS vision", and ends up putting it together to resemble something akin to a small go-kart that's been tossed around the junkyard like a 2 cent whore.
So to Ridley I plead - Please. PLEASE. Come and put these motherfuckers out of business. For me.
Please.

I agree with you here.
Maybe, to solve this problem, videogame companies shouldn't sell their game rights to movie studios and produce the movies themselves, thus being able to keep the stories intact and the movies from sucking

Which is apparently what's happening here and with Grand Theft Auto.
So, as you might imagine, this makes me happy :p

A Halo movie would make big cash, but I don't think there is enough story to be stretched out over two hours while still maintaining my interest.

Halo, as is, has as much, if not more, story than any big budget Hollywood epic made in the last ten years.
But
The Ridley Scott thing was just a rumor, as was the involvement of Ed Harris and Samuel L Jackson. Gamespot.com shot these down weeks ago.
Hollywood would never pony up $100+ million to make a movie where you never see the hero's face. Halo would work better as a CGI animated movie like Final Fantasy.
