View Full Version : Great Female Directors?

I was just thinking before as I was reading Entertainment Weekly and what they had for possible Best Director nominations for this year and not a single one was female. Then it also struck me that I cannot think of many, if any great female directors.
The only ones I could think of are Penny Marshall who directed A League of Their Own (8/10), which I actually enjoyed a lot. Sofia Coppola directed The Virgin Suicides (7/10), which is a pretty good movie.
Other than that I can't think of any good female directors. Can you all think of other great female directors? You probably can, so list them. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Julia Roberts! (Just Kidding with you!)
Barbara Stristand (cannot spell her last name, tried several different ways and done look right!), has done a good job. But other than Penny Marshall, I cannot even think of another woman. PLEASE tell me there are more out there.

I saw part of Triumph of the Will in film class! I mean...WOW! I hate what it promotes, but technically it's a masterpiece that all aspiring directors should study!

That's right, Gillian Armstrong directed Little Women (8/10). A favorite of mine since it's release in 1994 when I was 11. Claire Danes kicked ass in that movie, deserved a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, at least a nomination.
