Anyone else here do this?: instead of buying up a movie that was absolutely kickass right when it come out, you wait a coupla years for its sequel (and possibly sequels) so that when they release that special package of all the movies plus a shitload of extras discs, you're right in line with credit card in hand.
I'm doing it now, I'm waiting for the third Bourne movie to be released and the last Spider-man movie to be released so I can buy whatever trilogy set they got.
I'm beginning to wish I did so with the Star Wars prequels, but it's a little late for that.

i do the same thing, it saves money plus you get a cool box to display the movies in, as for the Star Wars 6 movie box set, don't get your hopes up. Lucas was originally going to wait til episode 3 came out on dvd and then release a huge box set, but people wouldn't stop bothering him about releasing the originals on dvd, so now he he says he won't release a 6 movie box set

So you'll deny yourself a movie you enjoy, just because you want extra features?
Why not just wait until HD-DVD comes out then? Hell, why not just wait until the format after HD-DVD comes out, since you'll have to replace it with those anyway right? They might even release it twenty years from now with a super special edition, better not buy them just yet!
Spider-Man and the third Bourne are years away, I can't see you enjoying them that much if your willing to wait YEARS to own the dvd's.
There's always such a thing as buying the early edition, then selling it when the newest one is released (even in theatres), since you know a package is coming out sooner then later.
Honestly what is the point of waiting so long? For a few crappy making of extras and commentaries? There's always going to be a new release of a movie you want, whether it be tomorrow, or ten years from now. Why not enjoy that movie you love so much right now, instead of punishing yourself by holding out for a few years to get an extra disc, only to realize it's stuff you've already seen a hundred times on tv or on the internet.

I like the extra features. Sue me. Plus, as much money as I make, HD-DVD won't be in my possession until just before I die.

That's fine but you completely avoided everything I just said. Why deny yourself a movie because of special features?
If you really like that movie so much, why not just buy it, then sell it before a new one comes out? That's what I do, and I get at least 80% what I paid for back when I resell it. There's no point in waiting years for a special edition.
What happens if that special edition turns out to be a pile of crap? Or what if there's not going to be extra discs for the bourne series? You've wasted all that time for nothing.

You could just rent it.

I really appreciate the special features, but that alone will not stop me from picking up a DVD of a film I really enjoy.
I can however understand the rationale for wanting to wait for a special edition, but I cant say I would wait years for a special edition DVD that simply has more features than the previous edition. Especially if it's a film I really like, as I've already mentioned.
My GF inherits my older/barebones DVD's when the special editions are released. She could care less about the extras. However, I enjoy special features.
I guess there are those who have patience, and those who dont. :D

With The Matrix sequels or Kill Bill bigred760's argument makes sense but for Spider-Man?
Part 3 isn't due to start filming until 2007 so he's going to wait at least 3 years to own some kick ass films he could be enjoying now.
I got Spider-Man 2 for xmas have already watched it once & plan to watch it loads more times before the Spider-Man 3 DVD comes out in late 2007 (at the earliest).
Besides I've got a feeling the Spidey franchise will do a James Bond & run & run so I'd seize the moment as there will never be a definitive box set in my view.

I'm not avoiding them; I'm just not buying them. At work I can "check out" movies that have just been released, kind of like a library. I just wait to buy them until a special edition comes out. Or I rent them.
And I have had to sell or do some kind of exchange with some of my DVDs. They include: the Matrix trilogy, Unforgiven (which is my favorite movie), Pulp Fiction, Memento, Shawshank RedemptionMonty Python and the Holy Grail, Heat, The Great Escape, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I've just gotten tired of reselling, trading, or giving away these DVDs and a lower price to rebuy a SE, that I want for the extras, later on.
