I saw at least 15 people pick it up at Best Buy today at the same time I did, so just wondering who else bought the DVD on its day or week of release

I bought my copy during my lunch break yesterday. As a recovering DVD-a-holic, I haven't bought a DVD in months but Garden State was one movie I just had to own.

I'm upset, I'm visiting my parents in a small town in Nova Scotia and no place in town(not even the Walmart) had it, so I have to wait until friday so I can get it

I saw it three times when it was in theatres, it's one of my favorites

Can someone please explain to me the popularity of this movie? I'm not going to bash it because I found it at the very least, entertaining.

But some people are reaching out there stating it moved them and changed their lives for the better. Why?

The movie was medicore, I found Portman horrible at the beginning, and then at the very most progressed into a good rounded character who was very emotionally unstable.

There's so little explained about Zach's past, only the story on why he left his family so many years ago, but we are expected to feel for this character, yet I never did. I just found his stories way too forced to get you to feel emotions. Yes I know he's not supposed to be able to express emotions and he is slowly starting to feel for himself again now that he's off drugs, whatever. His father gave him all the medication because he thought it would help him, yeah yeah yeah. Guy has problems, finds girl, changes life, what's so different about this than any other romantic comedy? Please!

I just found the story....boring. It was interesting to me in the slightest, and it's too bad because I heard great things about it.

That being said, can anyone explain the popularity of this movie to me? What was it that made you enjoy this movie so much. This just felt like such a cheap attempt to make an artsy film, that people just want to look for something in it, and just love it because it's not common hollywood trash.

(Oh, please don't use the "you didn't get it argument" I got it just fine. Just because a movie makes sense doesn't make it good in my eyes.)

bravo Thunder

couldn't have said it beter myself.

I purchased this movie on Tuesday, based on everyones rave reviews. I like the guy on Scrubs and Natlie alot so I thought wow everyone loves this so its a no brainer blind buy.

This movie wasn't bad, but it was great either. a 6 (out of 10) at best.

I "GOT" the movie also, but don't get what everyone "loves"

I'm guessing the whole appeal is based on the characters ability to just "let go". He's finally letting out years of pent up anger out of him and Portman's character helps him do it WOOP DE DOO!. There's plenty of movies just like this, if not much better. I can only assume because it's a low budget, it just appeals to a different audience?

I just don't see the appeal of this movie at all. Please SOMEBODY give a valid argument on this movie!

I can't speak for others, but something about this movie just clicked with me. I can see certain parts of my life intertwined with that of Zach Braff's character Largemen (i.e. his feeling of numbness & insignificance in the world, his relationship with his father or lack there-of). I can also identify with Peter Sarsgaard's character and how he busts his ass off working hard yet it's never good enough in other people's eyes and that he "can do better.". I loved his line on how he's okay with being unimpressive and that it makes him sleep better at night.

I'm also a big Natalie Portman fan so I have a tendency to like her work, but her portrayal of Sam made me wish I could know someone just like her in real life.

I don't know if anyone can give a valid argument on why this movie is appealing. I guess it has to do with personal tastes & the experience they have when watching it. I agree that the whole plot line is a typical theme explored in romantic comedies but this one seems genuine & earnest.

Yes Sir.

I really enjoyed this picture. I believe Zach Braff shows tremendous potential as filmmaker, and if he grows and challenges himself, we could be seeing the development of a great artist.
