I bought my copy in the UK a while ago. The director's cut is awesome and definitely worth the wait and money.

What does it have on it like any deleted scenes in the actual film or just has a bunch of little comentarys?

Well, the UK version had the same extras as on the Region 1 release of the original version.
It also had a documentary about a Donnie Darko art gallery thing in the UK and one about a group of Donnie Darko addicts.
The commentary for the Director's Cut is by Richard Kelly and (strangely) Kevin Smith.
Kelly states at the start that he's not good at keeping commentaries going as he runs out of ideas, so he's enlisted the help of Kevin Smith to talk shit through it. Works well too, it's a good commentary.
Obviously deleted scenes won't really be there since they're mostly in the film now.

I heard that they changed some of the music that was in the original release. Any truth to this? (I enjoyed the original score myself.)

Yeah it has a slightly different soundtrack and the deleted scenes aren't anything elaborate, but they help developer the story better, I think. The 2nd DVD has some nice interviews with all the cast members and what they perceive the movie to be as well as a few other odds 'n ends. Don't expect much out of it, as it's nothing really special. Like I said above, definitely worth the purchase in February.
kmksskater - the majority if the deleted scenes located on the current Donnie Darko DVD are all included in the director's cut, except for the impalement scene, if I remember correctly. It also has some other added scenes that haven't been released before as well as some new special effects that make the movie a little more eerie. The ending is cleaned up quite a bit and the effects look better. There's also a weird eye that comes up on the screen that signifies location changes within the movie. It's kind of hard to explain.

The name of that song is "Carpathian Ridge".
The soundtrack isn't totally changed. It's still basically the same but it has some really nice added tunes and some are changed (for the better). You won't be disappointed, trust me.

I thought that song was 'the killing moon' by Echo and the Bunnymen. Its a pretty good track.

The name of the music that plays at the very start of the film (the piano playing) is called Carpathian Ridge. That music is present in the director's cut, but it's a different version of it, there are no choir vocals.
The song that plays when Donnie Rides his bike is Under The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen, however in the Director's Cut this is replaced by Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. This was, according to Kelly in the commentary, the original song they wanted for that scene but couldn't for certain reasons. It actually works better, you can tell that the scenes were filmed to go in time with the song.

Thanks guys! I've seen the deleted scenes on the original DVD release and can't wait for the director's cut (love the song Killing Moon) It sux that they didn't leave that in there but I'm sure it's kewl. The music that they use in that film flows so well it's odd a lot of times music isn't used as it should be in a film. I think this is one of those rare cases where it's purrfect.
Yep, it time to upgrade my DVD to the director's cut when it comes out. This movie is just too good not to get all the extras with.

I've read various opinions on the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko. It's been suggested that the DC is actually inferior to the theatrical version because it removes some of the mystique. I already have the original DVD release and don't feel, even though I love the movie, driven to splash out on the DC DVD. I'll just hang off until the price drops.

Aye, it's the same in the Director's Cut. A slightly different mix of it though.
