View Full Version : Oh My God I Seriously Hate People

I was reading my newspaper this morning and I came across the "Letters to the Editor" section where people pretty much just write in to bitch about anything and everything they can, when I came across this letter:
Surprise
"A Julia Roberts movie has got to be great and entertaining, right? Wrong. My friends and I were totally caught off guard with Roberts latest movie; "Closer". To have even been part of such trash is apalling. I can't believe Roberts or her co-stars will be able to look back on this movie and be proud of their craft. The raw and lewd sensual antics, along with the obscene language, made me ashamed to even be witnessing this vile, morally depraved, crude movie. I walked out of this movie less than halfway through it. I'm so sorry others didnt protest and walk out with me. Are wem as adults, going to be continually complacent with the path our present society is taking? We, as parents and grandparents, and those who are guardians of our children, need to rebel. What hope is there for our children if we continue to live in an "acceptance" state of mind? I'm a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cares about the future of my family. How about you? By the way, this movie was given 4 stars, recieved 4 Golden Globe nominations and may be up for an Academy Award. Who judges this stuff - the Devil?"
Ok, I seriously fucking hate people like this. This dumbass old woman obviously didnt take the time to read about the movie to find out what it was about before going to see it. She just said "Julia Roberts?! Let's go!" and then got all mad when she found out it was an adult movie about 4 people involved in a twisted, sexual relationship. Then she goes on to once again say "Think of the children!" FUCK THE CHILDREN! THIS ISNT A CHILD'S FILM! It's rated R because of SEX AND LANGUAGE YOU DUMB WHORE! The film was marketed towards adults because its an adult movie, not some run of the mill teeny-bopper crap!
This great-grandmother need to go back to the nursing home, put on a new pair of Depends, and shut the fuck right up. She's gonna be dead soon anyways, so why should anyone else care if shes offended by a movie starring people half her age about stuff she's never done in her entire life.
I've said it time and again, It's 2005 people. Not 1955. Times have changed, things are different, FUCKING DEAL WITH IT!

Send this section to the newspaper editorial boards, perhaps they will print it.

Well, Chris, I didnt go that far. I did send a letter though, and here it is:
Mind Boggler
"It boggles my mind how dumb and lazy some people are nowadays. I opened my paper this morning and had the displeasure of reading a Senior Citizen gripe about a movie she saw recently and how "morally wrong" the movie was. Based on the way the letter was written, it was obvious she hadn't done her homework to find out what exactly the movie was about. She just
saw that it starred one of her favorite actors, got 4 stars, and that was it. Then she proceeded to get offended when she found out what all it was about. She even went into one of the overrated "think of the children" tirades that I see left and right anymore. First off, the movie she saw (Closer starring Julia Roberts), isnt a movie for kids. It's rated "R" for sexual situations and language, 2 of the things she complained about in the letter. Had she done her homework on the film instead of just saying "Julia Roberts?! Let's go!", she would've found out what the film was about and why it was rated what it was. Second, contact your local theater manager and ask how many "student" tickets were sold for the film, because I almost guarantee the answer is none. The movie was marketed as an adult movie, and meant for adults to see. I highly doubt any kids anywhere would want to go see this movie. Kids today have the attention span of a hummingbird, and there is no way they would be able to sit still for 2 hours and watch a drama about a husband and wife exploring their sexuality. Next time, do your homework on a film. That way you dont get all bent out of shape and waste my time by complaining about it. I've
said it time and again, it's not 1955 anymore people. Things are
different. Movies are different, music is different, everything in the
entire world is different. Deal with it!"

She should've learned this with MONA LISA SMILE. :D
This reminds me of a substitute teacher I had in Spanish class once, where we started talking about recent movies we'd seen, and I said how much I dug VANILLA SKY. The sub was absolutely shocked that I even sat through the whole thing, because she was apparently so shocked by the film's sexual content that she just couldn't take it and left and never wants to see it again. It made for quite the heated argument, in which I got called a "pervert" as well. Ah, well, I guess the old saying is true: assholes are like opinions...everyone has one, and in this case, they are an asshole for not letting others have different views than them.

Completely agree with your rant though as a sidenote I've always felt that Julia Roberts was completely overrated.
The situations present in Closer populate the majority of primetime television. If this kind of thing shocks and appalls her maybe she should just stop watching television and movies altogether and go join a convent or something and shut the fuck up. After all, the ratings system did warn her of adult sexual content before she even entered the theater, did it not? What is the issue here? That some fucking prude is shocked and appalled at what she saw? Because Julia Roberts is such a "wholesome" girl? Yeah-- that charcater she played in Pretty Woman was a nice wholesome prostitute. My only message to this idiot would be:
GROW A FUCKING BRAIN YOU FUCKING HAG!
I agree with the rant, but I have a few points to ponder:
1. I've always hated Julia Roberts. And I always will. So I wouldn't have the bad taste to pay for CLOSER.
2. In defense of the elderly woman and others like her:
A) They don't know how to use computers 9 times out of 10. So they can't look things up as easily.
B) Julia Roberts has never appeared in anything with strong sexual content or language (even as a hooker in PRETTY WOMAN). And
C) This woman grew up and grew old in a different generation, where this behavior was frowned upon, even in film. That she is upset doesn't make her stupid or a hag, etc. It makes her out of touch with society, but she doesn't come off as another dumb old person. She's just part of a huge generation gap.
On the other hand, newspapers are cheap and they tell why a movie is rated R in the first place, so she needs to wake up and pay attention.

i am not going to get all worked up over this when she is a great grand-mother, she grew up in a differnt time so I can see how she would get upset, but to qoute "The Times Are A-Changin'" :
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'
times do change. in the 50's just like how people got upset about Elvis's hip movement being to sexual.
Also she could have read up on the moive and see what it is about and avoid the movie.

I just got a call a little while ago from the newspaper that was "We want to verify you wrote a letter in regards to the letter in todays paper and to give us permission to put it in the paper."
Of course I said "Yes I did and Yes you can."
Wonder what kind of can of worms I'll open up?
Or, more importantly, I wonder how much of my letter will be edited? Because I've written letters before basically telling people to shut the fuck up and stop complaining (Janets titty was the basis of one letter, I told people we all have nipples and if they dont get offended when they look down in the shower or see themselves nude in the mirror, then why get so bent out of shape over seeing a 2 second flash of one on tv?) and my letters have been edited before. Stuff's been taken out, sentences rewritten.....whatever. When the letter shows up, I'll post what they chose to print.

Tell this old hag to shut up and go watch Matlock (not that I don't like Matlock). But that would be a show that would not offend her at all. She must have noticed things are changing around her, and if she hasen't, well, she should just shut the hell up.

I totally agree with jackson13's rant. I freakin' hate the fact that people sometimes judge a movie solely on sexual content and language than stuff like performances, story, plot, direction, or something like that. (I wonder if she ever saw Showgirls or Basic Instinct :D). It's my opinion that this woman is used to the good ole days where sex and violence were considered taboo in movies and is used to the days before the current ratings system was in place.
Me, I'm a fan of the 1st amendment, and that movies should not be censored or even protested (but am glad that the latter option is available :D).
The woman needs to wake up and smell the freedom of expression.

I find it utterly hilarious that some old woman walked into the theater and proceeded to be shocked and appalled. :p
Now, I am not against her opinion of the movie..regardless of what year this is, people do NOT have to accept the way the world has changed...BUT..in this age we live in, there is NO excuse whatsoever for ANYONE..even dried up old ladies to NOT have READ in a newspaper, or seen on Tv what this film deals with...Internet wasnt even needed to know what the flick was about....and besides....if the old bag was able to read who was in the movie, then she could have also read the R-RATING at the bottom..and whipped out her Magnifyer to see EXACTLY what content the R was given for....on this, I do agree that it isnt the 40s or 50s anymore..ONLY in that NOBODY goes to movies anymore based on WHOM is IN them....this isnt...Oh my, Bogie has a new film out, lets go see it....and NEVER even reading or knowing what the content is....these aint those times..and ANYONE who has a friggin tv is responsible for knowing this..so if that woman got burned....its her own damn fault.

Stuff she's never done in her entire life? Who knows, maybe she was a high-priced call girl in the days of the Byzantine Empire, before she found Jesus and a hand-cranked vibrator.

Quoting my original letter sent to the paper because they printed my letter yesterday. The version they put in the paper is below my quote. It's almost the same, but they did change/edit some.

Deal With It
I opened my paper and had the displeasureof reading a senior citizen gripe about a movie she saw recently and how morally wrong the movie was (Voice, Jan 12). It was obviouise she hadnt done her homework to find out what exactly the movie was about. She just saw that it starred one of her favorite actors, got 4 stars, and that was it. Then she proceeded to get offended. She even went into one of the "think of the children" tirades that I see left and right anymore. First off, the movie she saw ("Closer, starring Julia Roberts) isn't a movie for kids. It's rated "R" for sexual situations and language, 2 of the things she complained about in the letter. Had she done her homework on the film she wouldv'e found out what the film was about and why it was rated what it was. If she were to contact the theater manager and ask how many "student" tickets were sold for the film, I almost guarantee the answer would be none. The movie was marketed as an adult movie. I've said it time and again: It's not 1955 anymore, people. Things are different. Deal with it!
So, as you can see, they did change some of it. Added a little here and there, replaced a word or 2 here and there, edited some...whatever. I'm not even mad. I'm just glad my voice was heard and that they actually printed my letter. I hope more movie fans in my area speak out themselves because I think it would be great to see all of us sticking up for what we love: movies.
Wow, I didn't realize papers changed reader's editorials as much as yours was. At least the essence of your letter remained.
Hell, in my paper, if you aren't praising the President, the war, Jesus, or expressing shock at all the immorality, you don't get in.
The image of that crotchety old woman walking out of Closer in horror both amuses and disgusts me at the same time...it's a bizarre sensation.
