Fox TV censored a naked ass in a Family Guy repeat
-----------------------------
http://apnews1.iwon.com//article/20050117/D87M474G0.html?PG=home&SEC=news
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Fox says it covered up the naked rear end of a cartoon character recently because of nervousness over what the Federal Communications Commission will find objectionable.
The latest example of TV network self-censorship because of FCC concerns came a few weeks ago during a rerun of a "Family Guy" cartoon. Fox electronically blurred a character's posterior, even though the image was seen five years ago when the episode originally aired.
"We have to be checking and second-guessing ourselves now," Fox entertainment president Gail Berman said Monday. "We have to protect our affiliates."
Fox hadn't gotten any complaints about the cartoon. But the move follows the FCC's decision in October to fine 169 Fox stations $7,000 each for airing an episode of "Married By America" that showed people licking whipped cream from strippers' bodies and a man in his underwear being spanked by strippers.
"It's certainly confusing when you have to do something like that," Berman said. "It's just that we were trying to find our way and do what's responsible."
At PBS, executives said this weekend they will edit out a glimpse of a naked woman in a fictional account of a terrorist "dirty bomb" attack that will air next month after being shown first on HBO.

I am now officially avoiding any fox programming whatsoever
fucking pussies with absolutley no balls
I can't believe these pinheaded fuckfaces are going to bring back Family Guy...they will neuter the show and make it into a family-friendly, boring, bland pile of shit...
fuck fox tv, fuck them up their stupid asses
I'm going to fire off an angry, though less profanity-laden email...
I'm truly disgusted by a network that was once edgy and unafraid to take risks..now they wallow in shitty reality shows (and this coming froma confessed reality show junkie) and mediocre "entertainment"
they need some new blood that's not afraid to take a few risks...
maybe they could learn something from the FX network...get some of guys over in charge....
no, this isn't just about a cartoon ass that's been show on Adult Swim countless times...just about them being pussies and I just know they'll neuter the show when it comes back...those idiots don't deserve to have a show of that caliubur on their network

Personally I lost all respect for Fox a long time back. My hatred for them reached a fever pitch when the abomination known as Alien Vs. Predator was released w/o any fucking gore content whatsoever.
Fuck you Fox, you bunch of right wing leaning corporate schmucks.
Leave Family Guy where it belongs, on ADULT SWIM!!! Untouched, crass and vulgar just the way we like it or we'll send Stewie over there to deal with your dumb asses.

I think the outrage is justified, but let's turn towards the people who deserve it. These people being Michael Powell and the FCC and all the uptight conservative people out there who bitch about anything they find even a tiny bit objectionable.
Yeah it'd be great if Fox or any network for that matter would take a stand, but like they said they have to protect their affiliates which each could be find obscene amounts of money. Is millions of dollars in potential fines worth showing an animated ass or an old mans ass for that matter?
Don't get me wrong I'm extremely pissed right now at the conservative atmosphere that seems to be growing more uptight every day. But its the FCC and the religious conservative right that is fucking things up for us and not neccessarily the networks.

part of my wrath is dedicated to them as well
I've fired off emails to them as well (quaint, well spellchecked, non-profane emails ;-))
I've also emailed Fox and am waiting a reply.
I've also emailed people on the PTC hitlist, but instead of condemining them, supporting them
it's fun to rant and rave and say the f-word on a message board, but I also like to get serious and send messages and let them know, personally, how I feel.

Yeah, I don't know man. I was reading the article thinking about what a bunch of ass jockeys the people at the FCC were, and then was a little surprised to see all the hate directed at FOX. Geez, Bill's have to be paid. It's not much to get over.
This is all because of Janet Jackson's little brown nipple.

Oh my god, get your children down to the bomb shelter, because of a cartoon character's naked ass. PRAY FOR THEIR LIVES because a naked ass represents the coming of the DEVIL! SAVE US JESUS from the depths of our MORAL DECAY!
I wish someone would just go to the FCC headquarters, and bomb the fucking place right into the ground.
Yeah, it's dumb to do that, but I wouldn't call them "pussies". All they are really doing is trying to keep their jobs.

what happened to Fox being edgy and entertaining? they've become predictable, stale and boring
it's not that I'me bent out of shape by the pixelation of a cartoon ass, it's that they've started down that slippery slope...

I feel that the people should be blaming the FCC for networks being cautious. How are you supposed to run a business if you and your local city affiliates keep having to pay money for stupid shit?
Adult Swim is on cable and is allowed to get away with more than networks like FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC. It has nothing to do with balls.
You can have all the balls in the world, but if you keep having to pay fines for speeding tickets, you are eventually going to have to slow down.
Married with Children reruns are starting to get cut back now because they were one of the shows that were fined the heaviest last year... and they were ALL RE-RUNS!
So let me restate again, it has nothing to do with balls. It has something to do with a general fine to fox, and then a multi-thousand dollar fine to each and every single local affiliate FOX station that aired the violation. If the fine is 10,000 dollars and let's say 50,000 local fox affiliates aired it, then that's a total of 500 million dollars going to the FCC because of one violation. FOX is actually protecting the little people, like my channel 28 Columbus FOX station, WTTE. They aren't millionaires and can't handle taking these fines up the ass.
How are you supposed to get fined and then still run a business? With balls? I don't get it...

Or we could vent our anger at the real pussies, the FCC who are proposing fines on the programming we like to watch because they are fucking assholes and want us to start watching more 'morally proper' programming.
In my opinion, there is an asshole, but it isn't the television networks. They've been trying to push the envelope to us for years. It's the FCC. Write e-mails to them. Complain to your cable company about how you don't like what they are doing, yet are billed an "FCC regulatory fee" on your cable bill. (Check your cable bill, it should say this on there)
For most people that have cable, they actually pay this fee so the FCC can keep running. The keep running through our money, and make profits by making bullshit fines to shows like Married With Children.

First off, I read every single one of your posts, and everyone elses before reading this thread. I know you said you did 'ample letter writing', but despite your 'ample letter writing', most of the wrath in this thread, including the title of your thread, is dictated at FOX for not 'having the balls' to want to pay money out the ass for ridiculous indecency claims and risk bankruptcy or the loss of several of the small town affiliates.
I didn't agree that FOX should take any of the blame at all. They were one of the pioneers of crude television by taking risks and coming out with the Simpsons, Married With Children, Family Guy, and much much more.
Yes, you did bring up your 'ample letter writing' to the other faction involved, but see, it's a circular motion here... it all still comes back to FOX HAS NO BALLS, FOX IS PUSSIES, and FUCK FOX TV, FUCK THEM UP THEIR STUPID ASSES.
I disagree with that, and felt like protesting against it. If the programming is stupid that's one thing, but I'm not going to put any source of hate into a tv company when I know myself, and a good part of the nation that I live in, are a bunch of fuckin penny pinchers on their on lives. Seriously, if there is anyone here who would rather pump $1.84/gallon gas in their car when $1.79/gallon is right across the street, please let me know.
When the affiliates start getting hit, people start losing their jobs. As I said before, the affiliate people are not rich by any means. In this day and age when the economy is barely swimming at all, I don't want to see people at my Channel 28 WTTE Columbus station get laid off so I can see a cartoon's ass.
Yeah, you did 'ample letter writing', but where is THE MOST hate coming from? I'd say it comes from the thread's title: "fox=pussies?" If you'd read your original post, the commentary section doesn't give a fuck about the FCC, the PTC, or anything. It wants to know why FOX won't take a risk of being hit with multi-thousand dollar fines so they can be more like your favorite cable television channels who don't have the risk of getting fines.

Amen, bro. Thank God Adult swim is still around to kick the shit out of conventional, paranoid bureaucrats.
Fox will put on piece-of-crap programming like "Who's Your Daddy?" but will pixelize a cartoon ass? Just reaffirms that they're the buffoons other networks claim them to be.

Nice way to stand up for Fox, DeadWalk. I'm totally with you. This channel is still pioneering humor with shows like Arrested Development.

TBS is a cable network, and can get away with more. Fox is a basic mainstream channel that the FCC has a tight grip on.
If TBS gets fined, it comes out of Ted Turner's pocket.
If FOX gets fined, then every local affiliate that aired the show has to pay the same stiff amount. Places like:
Cleveland
Columbus
Cincinatti
Toledo
Indianapolis
Boston
Miami
Jacksonville
Tampa
San Francisco
L.A.
San Diego
Las Vegas
Seattle
Spokane
Boise
Austin
Houston
Dallas
New Orleans
Birmingham
Minneapolis
Chicago
Memphis
Atlanta
Helena
and much, much more.
The people at these cities aren't rich like Ted Turner. They are like a burger king owner only + business and/or media degree. They're probably still paying off their student loans themselves and dealing with their own local problems.
If the Columbus station has to pay 50,000 dollars in fines... well....
I'll just let Lester Bernham from American Beauty explain it::
LESTER:
That's fifty thousand dollars. That's somebody's salary. That's somebody who's gonna get fired because Craig has to pay women to fuck him!
