Now, don't get me wrong, I absoultely love the Wayne's World films, but last night I decided to watch the first film with DVD commentary by the director, Penelope Spheeris. And after 10 minutes I came to this conclusion:
I REALLY DON'T LIKE HER.
Now, I've heard other reports abotu how she's such a nice lady, so maybe her commentary is just poorly researched, but i's pretty much all stories about how great she is, how she made up practically every good line by herself when they were on the set, and how people didn't use words like "excellent" until Wayne's World came out.
She also laughs at everything in a stupid dumb hippie stoner laugh (especailly, for some reason, the least funny parts), and then feels the need to explain why it's funny. ("Hhhaaaaaa... he just looked at the camera and smiled... hhhhaaaaa, that's great, he's letting the audience in on it").
Then she makes up these bullshit stories that come out of nowhere, like how back in the 70's Matt Groening told her he was "working on this thing called The Simpsons" and asked if she wanted in on it, which is complete shite (Groening has said numerous times in the past, including on one of the Simpsons DVD boxsets, that he came up with the idea for the Simpsons on the fly while getting ready to pitch the idea for another cartoon starring his Life In Hell bunnies).
By the end of the film I was so enraged that I had to share this with you all.
Has anyone else heard this commentary and share my views?
