Simon Cowell Criticizes Beyonce

One of music's harshest critics doesn't think Beyonce is so bootylicious.

Simon Cowell, a judge on Fox television's "American Idol," has some choice words about the 23-year-old singer.

"I find the whole Beyonce thing really mystifying," Cowell says in Esquire magazine. "She's not sexy, she hasn't got a great body and she's not a great singer."

But Cowell defends a more maligned figure: Ashlee Simpson, who caught plenty of flak after being caught lip-synching on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" last year.

"Why should you have to do something substandard just for the sake of being real? If it sounds better with the vocal you recorded, why shouldn't people listen to that? There's almost a witch-hunt mentality about people miming."

The British talent judge came out swinging on all subjects.

On President Bush: "He could almost be a robot."

On marriage: "At the end of the day, it's an incredibly unfair contract."

On France: "We (the British) have hated the French for years. Now you (the United States) have just joined the club. It makes you much more likable."

The fourth season of "American Idol" was set to premiere Tuesday night.

Simon is the epitomey (sp?) of classless pathetic loser, he is a no talent hack that thinks he knows something about the music industry, sorry to say he dont know shit, but then again do i? HELL NO, all Im saying is the only 2 people on american idol or any critic for that matter that can say shit about others and at least be taken seriously are those who are current or former artists themselves, I for one wanna hear Simon try to carry a tune

Simon freely admits he can't carry a tune...but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

I like him, he's a miserable blow-hard and good at it. I don't always agree with his opinion but I respect it, he's a multi-millionaire for a perfectly good reason; he knows his stuff.

Exactly. Besides, Beyonce can't sing great at all, and all her songs sound alike, but man I'd tap that ass (yes, yes, I'd tap anything that moves. Blah-blah-blah! ;)).

Simon's a super-savvy businessman. His image is almost larger than his accomplishments. Without his dickhead persona, he's be just another talent scout. I don't take his comments too seriously.

I really hate to like Simon, but I just do. However, some of the things he says are just so far fetched, I can't seem to fathom their validity. For example, how can he sit there and say that he condones what Ashlee Simpson did? A recording is better than a live performance if it sounds better?! What?! Uh uh, not even close, dude. I'm not a performer, but it seems to me that part of being a PERFORMER would be to actually PERFORM your music once in a while. People don't go to a concert to fuckin' hear the studio recordings, they could have done that at home. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd be pretty fuckin' pissed if a singer I liked decided to put out no effort and lip synch. I think Ashlee Simpson's a joke anyway, and in no way do I think she should be defended in the least. She fucked up, got caught, and should be exposed as the talentless girl that she is.

As far as the rest of Simon's comments go, I feel kinda weird about him sometimes...he always seems to say exactly what I'm thinking, or the complete opposite. With Beyonce, I happen to think she's a pretty damn good singer, and that she has an enchanting body...but that's just me...maybe it's 'cause I'm not british...yeah, maybe that's it...;) :D

I respect Cowell for the fact he's never afraid to say what's on his mind, even at the expense of fellow judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. I freely admit I laugh at him most of the time because I don't take those comments too seriously. I don't agree on some things, but he may be the most honest man on TV.

Wow, this is definitely an opinion I disagree with. True, Beyonce doens't have the best voice but I think she can sing circles around the clowns that won American Idol. I think she's very talented. If he doesn't think she's sexy or has a great body then damn, I along with many girls need to hit the gym because Beyonce has a great body. True her thighs could be thinner but she looks wonderful.
One way you could tell if peoplle think someone if talented is if they allow them to get away with certain things. Now Beyonce dresses, I believe, just as provacatively as Britney, however no one really talks about it because she has talent, where Britney doesn't. So Britney is just really selling her body and an image and not a voice.

I'm no crusader for the rights of Simon Cowell, but I'd say you'd be wrong here. Simon knows a lot about the music industry, and show business in general.
