LONDON, England (AP) -- Ben Kingsley and his wife, Alexandra, have separated after 15 months of marriage, the actor's publicist said Wednesday.

"For some time now, Ben and Alexandra have been leading separate lives," said a statement issued by Ildiko Nagy, Kingsley's Los Angeles publicist.

"The separation is very amicable, they remain fond of each other and will continue to be very close."

Kingsley, 61, has won many awards for his acting, including the best actor Oscar in 1983 for his role in "Gandhi." His screen credits also include "House of Sand and Fog," "Sexy Beast" and "Bugsy."

On Monday, the BZ tabloid printed a picture of Alexandra Christmann passionately locking lips with estate agent Sammy Brauner, the son of well-known German movie producer Atze Brauner.

That night, a photographer for the publication spotted Christmann holding hands with Brauner at a party, where she told the snapper: "I've split from Ben. Sammy is my new boyfriend now. We are a couple and we are really happy."

Gandhi actor Kingsley married Christmann in October 2003.
