Anyone else agree? Max Schreik was awesome in Nosferatu. Orlok had the long coat, grim white face, long hands, and the big ears. Nothing matches the scene where he's creeping up the stairs and all you see is the shadow. Who else shares the same view?

A truly awesome icon indeed. He certainly set the standard for most of the goth vampires out there today.

When people think "Vampire" they usually think of Lugosi or Nosferatu. Fifty years from now they will still think that. Most likely.

Shreck's Orlock is definitely one of the creepiest vampires out there. But the one that'll live most in my nightmares is The Master from Hooper's SALEM'S LOT. Fuckin' scary-ass vamp, that one...

I think John Polidori and Bram Stoker did that with 'The Vampyr' and 'Dracula'. They pretty much invented the vampire with a personality. Max Schreck just played him. Awesomely though.

Count Orlock is my favorite vampire of all time. Dracula, in any incarnation, has never made much of an impact on me.

Agreed. I shat ten shades of tartan when I first saw him as a kid.

Count Orlock is an incarnation of Dracula.

Yep, but an unauthorised incarnation, as Stoker's widow filed a successful lawsuit ordering that all known copies of the film were to be destroyed. Fortunately, they were unsuccessful.

I'll definatly agree that Orlock is the creepist looking vampire yet. Nosferatu still blows my mind everytime I watch it.

Okay, in any legal incarnation of Dracula. Perhaps I should have stated that Orlock is my favorite interpretation of Dracula. I think you know what I meant, though.

Yeah, Orlock's the scariest, although the Dracula in the remake looked pretty scary, and Salma Hayek in From Dusk Til Dawn....AAH! Just after a smoking hot dance, she turns into some....AAAH!

I'd say it's a toss-up between Lugosi's Dracula and Schreik's Count Orlock. Considering I grew up watching those classic Universal Monsters on video (geez, I'm only 20, I didn't watch them in theatres back in the 30's!), I'm partial to them. That's not to say that Orlock isn't creepy, which he is. The movements Schreik had in the makeup were about as jarring as seeing Karloff doing his Frankenstein's Monster shuffle. Lugosi I think made Dracula creepy just by the way he talked (considering that Lugosi didn't speak English very well, he really emphasized his enunciation of his lines). Like I said, it's a toss-up for me.

Chaney is/was God/Jesus. He fully committed himself to whatever character he was portraying. I wish that someone would release a proper version of London After Midnight (along with Thomas Edison's Frankenstein...now that is a creepy get-up).

Yes he gave me nightmare for years! I read the book when I was about 13 and envisioned him as being kinda ratlike and all, but that actor man...there were two years worth of sleeping with the lights on.

I'd love to see this movie...it has - as you may know - been lost for a looong time. Chaney was the master with makeup, although Max Schreck only used a bald cap, pointy ears and fake teeth. Still, he is the creepiest of them all.
