I'm so ready to see a movie that will reinforce my already swelling patriotism, and I think that movie will be The Majestic. I wonder if this will be the oscar winner for Jim Carrey??!

It looks like a really good performance for Jim Carrey. Maybe he'll at least get a Best Actor nomination to make up for the "Truman Show" snub.

I for one, think that "The Majestic" look's like one of the best film's of the year, Look's like a great story, look's to have fantastic acting, and also look's to have that sence of realism which most of the movie's this year have lacked.......

I agree...It's about time Carrey's performance is recoginized, and I think this will be the one.

And it's only PG. Can you believe a Jim Carrey movie that is only rated PG. That blows my mind. I wouldn't have guessed that in a...

OK I think the best part of this movie is the fact that Jim Carrey is in it ... I love his comedy movie and I think this will be good, humor and patriticism is a good match, huh? :-)

This is my most anticipated movie of the year, mostly because I love Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption (10/10) is my all-time favorite movie and I loved The Green Mile (9/10) too. Plus the previews look great, Martin Landau looks great and Jim Carrey looks better than ever. I think this year he actually will get nominated (finally).

The more I learned about the plot though I liked it a little less because it was different than what I pictured from the previews. But I'm still really looking forward to this one!

I don't think people have given him a chance. We've only seen him in like two serious parts. He was great in MAN ON THE MOON. I think, in THE TRUMAN SHOW, we were all waiting for Ace Ventura to make us laugh....we just weren't ready for him serious...I guess we'll see what he's got Dec 21st...

I'll be seeing this when it comes out. Carrey and Darabont haven't dissapointed me yet, and best of all, Bruce Campbell's in it!

Hi everyone! I agree with the bulk of you, this film looks wonderful. I REALLY hope to see Carrey get a nomination for this. I've heard he does a great job with this serious role. I think it speaks volumes about him that he can pull off these types of roles gracefully, and still do those offbeat wacky roles with as much grace.

I fianlly got the see the movie. It was great!!!! The story line was about integrity, and going after what you believe in. I sobbed frequently along with everyone else sitting around me. (we were all sharing tissues!!!) Jim Carrey really put his heart and soul into this film.

I've got to agree with chaichai and with Israphel. Although I admit that I haven't seen The Truman Show yet, I think The Majestic (9/10) is Jim Carrey's best performance to date. Martin Landau and the incredibly, insanely beautiful Laurie Holden was great too. Great story too. I can see why some people felt it was too predictable and too sentimental/corny, but it got past all my defenses. GOD BLESS YOU, FRANK DARABONT!

The Majestic is the perfect thing to hit theaters to bring the nation even closer. I think this is the whole point of the movie also.

I never dug Jim's drama movies. He should just stick to what works (comedies) and pay the bills that way. And if you go see that movie to satisy your swelling patriotism than go get a life and stop sucking the "Im magically patriotic because of 9/11 dick"

Seems like a good movie. Really can't go wrong with Jim Carrey. I haven't seen it yet. Does anyone have any advice. Should I see it, or will I be wasting money.

Sophia, you will be wasting not only your money, but your time as well. The Majestic is nothing but a very long movie that is both stupid & boring. You don't know how disappointed I was after the film finished.

Bah Humbug! Sophia, I see it for yourself and judge. I thought it was one of the best movies of the year. I think movie-lovers will especially love the beginning, which shows lots of clips from classic movies and talks a lot about how great movies are. Jim Carrey is very good, Martin Landau is fantastic, and the leading lady is very good (and beautiful). The story is pretty standard, but it's still one of the best feel-good movies I've ever seen.

Gotta love Frank Darabont! Great filmmaker.

Oh yeah, by the way, I gave it a 9/10, which makes it a great movie in my eyes. It's in my top five of the year.

I can see where you're coming from Colin. But I will have to disagree with you as well. I just had the slight pleasure of seeing THE MAJESTIC yesterday morning. I still can't make up my mind about it. You said that it is one of the best movies of the year; I would have to say no. When I went into the movie I thought it would turn out the same as The Green Mile did. I loved The Green Mile. That movie worked and got me into the characters and the story. Not to mention, I love The Shawshank Redemption as well and even more than The Green Mile. So I do like Darabont, there's no doubt, and I have for the past seven years.

The Majestic disappointed me. I wouldn't say that the running time effected it in any way. I can sit through long movies without any breaks and I did that with this one. The way the story went, though, as in, how it was set up, equaled total predictability. I just don't understand how it let me down. I knew everything that would happen, I saw the trailer, and it gave away everything. Maybe if I had avoided it, I would've liked the movie more, I don't know.

They should've added a few little twists here and there, and maybe a less obvious payoff set in a courtroom. Iam getting tired of movies that must end in a courtroom. I have gotten the drift that the courts are corrupt from so many movies recently. Straight from the top of my head: Men of Honor, and Shaft. But Shaft didn't dwell in the courtroom. That is why I hated Men of Honor.

What can I say, The Majestic was too obvious. The things I did like were the great beginning and end caps with Carrey in a meeting with Studio Executives (Carl and Rob Reiner, Sydney Pollack, and Garry Marshall). The fast overlapping dialogue was hysterical. The final scene with Carrey and Landau was sad and well acted. I also liked the things it had to say about movies in general. Very truthful. And the old movie posters and stuff--I was happy to see. And everytime they would show the name of a movie on the front of the Majestic, I just couldn't help but feel how much better those movies were. Instead of feeling good when I walked out, I felt confused because I didn't know if I liked it or not. The reason why Shawshank was applauded so highly was because we didn't know what would happen to Andy DuFresne. He escaped not only from under the warden's nose, but from under OUR nose. And when we realized what had just happened--that is what made it so good. Nothing like that happened in The Majestic. We knew how it would end so predictably.

I have come to the conclusion after one nights loss of sleep that The Majestic was neither good, nor bad, but just in the middle.

*** stars out of five

Damn! That is way too high. The Majestic gets a 4/10 from me. It's one of the worst movies of the year.
