I prefer Thunderball myself because, for one thing, it has a more 'polished' look than Never Say Never Again. Plus the fact that Claudine Auger's Domino is a more effective heroine than Kim Basinger's.
Not that Never Say Never is totally without merit. It does have great villians(Klaus Maria Braudauer & Barbara Carrera) & a fine ally for Bond(Bernie Casey's Felix Leiter). Connery, of course, is fine as always.
But Thunderball is, shall we say, a classier film.

I actually like Never Say Never Again better.

It has one of the best casts of any Bond film & whilst no great shakes as a film overall it isn't as dull as Thunderball.

The scenes on Largo's island drag on forever IMO.

Cool jetpack though.

It's been awhile since I've seen either one of 'em, but I'm giving the edge to Never Say Never Again.

Two words: "Rowan Atkinson"

And that duplicitous chick that Bond bangs on the boat was hot as hell.

It's an overall tie to me. Here's what I have to say about both:

THUNDERBALL

Pros:
-- More polished look
-- Best looking Sean Connery
-- Two of the sexiest Bond girls ever, Claudine Auger notably
-- A funny sequence with Q
-- A fun finale

Cons:
-- Not all that many memorable moments
-- Too many dull underwater scenes, that didn't age well at all

NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN

Pros:
-- The gorgeous Kim Basinger
-- Two extremely efficient bad guys (Klaus Maria Brandenbauer notably)
-- Rowan Atkinson ;)
-- More memorable moments

Cons:
-- Looks grainy, not as good
-- Older Sean Conner, graying hair already
-- Doesn't feel so much as a Bond movie
-- The goofy "electric pain" video game sequence

So yeah...I say it's a draw.

I'm going with Thunderball over its remake.

For starters, Sean Connery is more suave and "Bond"-esque in Thunderball, hell he's younger and NO GRAY HAIRS.

Even though Barbara Carrera is fine, the red head in the original is much hotter (in my opinion), as is the original "Domino."

Never Say Never Again - the title - has nothing to do with the movie. It has only to do with Sean Connery returning to the role that made him famous after he said he wouldn't. That's lame. I've never liked the title.

'Q' is better in Thunderbal; and while Rowan Atkinson is funny and all (especially in Four Weddings and a Funeral), he doesn't belong in Bond movies.

The remake was a Sony-made movie; so therefore all the Bond characters we've come to recognize were replaced with other actors - broke with the series' flow.

Thunderball is better.
