This is more for the amateurs of foreign films, but great comedy actor Jacques Villeret died today at age 53 of undisclosed reasons.

Villeret's best known role came in the Francis Veber movie LE DINER DE CONS (THE DINNER GAME), in which he co-starred as Francois Pignon, and which is currently to be remade in the US starring Ali G.

Villeret worked with most of the French greats, including Louis de Funès (LA SOUPE AUX CHOUX, in 1981), Philippe de Broca, Jean-Claude Brialy, Maurice Pialat... He was one of Claude Lelouch's favorite performers.

Villeret's death came as a surprise to me in particular and the whole of France in general. I know most people here probably don't even know who he is, but I knew his movies and thought he was one of the funniest and nicest people in French cinema, and wanted to pay him homage.

I know who he is, although I'm not entirely familiar with all of his work, he seemed like a nice guy with genuine talent. RIP.
